The "Boca Bash" returned this year in full swing after being canceled last year due to the pandemic. Though the event isn't a fun free-for-all for everyone. City leaders say they are worried about a potential spike in coronavirus infections as well as boater safety.

By Paul Castronovo The Boca Bash was Sunday, and man is it a sight to behold.  What is it? Well, and I’m not sure how it started or by whom, but rumor has it, it started as a Facebook post inviting boaters and partiers to come to Lake Boca (it’s not a lake but that’s what they call a large open area of the intracoastal inside Boca Inlet) to raft up on a Sunday and boy did it catch on!  I live on a canal in Boca, and yes I’ve dealt with drunk idiots driving recklessly in the hood, BUT...it’s one day, and dammit, it makes me wish I was 20 again...

Boats of all sizes were crowding into Lake Boca as early as 8 a.m. on Sunday. But not everyone wants to join the party on the water. "Anyone who’s sane stays away from that,” says one avid kayaker. “It becomes chaos.”

The Boca Bash, one of Boca Raton’s largest parties is set to return this month, after last year’s party-on-the-water was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and bad weather.
