The government announced a reduction in the import duty for components used in the manufacturing of mobile phones. The duty has been slashed from 15 percent to 10 percent, encompassing a range of crucial components such as battery covers, front covers, main lenses, back covers, and various other items integral to mobile phone production
The GTRI report also said that India's smartphone industry, with exports booming from $ 7.2 billion in 2022 to $13.9 billion in 2023, becomes the top performer for the PLI (production linked incentive) scheme by a wide margin and over 98 per cent of smartphones sold in India are made locally.
