Matanzas begins boys wrestling season with second-place finish at duals tournament

FPC, Matanzas athletes place at track state championships

Marcus Freeman had the highest finish from both FPC and Matanzas at the 3A/4A FHSAA track and field state championships on May 7 and 8 at the University of North Florida. Freeman placed seventh in the boys high jump after clearing a height of 1.91m. FPC s boys 4x400m (Vijay Weedon, Brandon Kalasnik, Marcus Freeman and Matthew Flintgrabbed) relay took eighth overall in a time of 3:23.45. Jada Williams competed in the girls 1600m, and the 3200m, placing ninth and eleventh respectively. In her first race, Williams ran 5:09.08 to best the school record that she set last week at the 4A Region-1 championships at FPC, lowering it by nearly 3.5 seconds. She also ran 11:16.04 in her second event.

Share The Matanzas track team competed in Regionals Saturday, May 1 resulting in discus thrower Bradyn Cox heading to the state championships. The Matanzas track team competed at the Class 3A-Region 1 meet Saturday, May 1, resulting in one athlete heading to the state championships and many personal records for the team. The team did really well earning a lot of PRs, Matanzas head track coach Tim Kane said. Bradyn Cox led our effort by qualifying for the State Championships in the discus. Leading the girls was Elecktra Engblom who PR d in the 200 meters with a 26.88 and the long jump at 15 8.75 . Zach Spooner led the boys with ninth place in the 3200 meter run and a PR of 10:19.98 which is 21 seconds faster.

Pirates finish third at district track meet | Palm Coast Observer

Many Pirates had top finishes in their respective events over the course of the day at this year s 3A District 4 championships on April 14. Along with individual finishes, both the boys and girls teams finished third respectively. The boys scored a total of 85.5 points on the day and the girls finished with a total of 109 points.   Due to scheduling as well precautions about COVID-19, preliminary rounds were eliminated and all events were finals.     Taylor Washington took first in the girls 100m hurdles in 16.35 and finished second in the girls high jump, clearing 1.52m. She also took second in the girls 300m hurdles in 51.22.
