On Sept. 12, the CDC issued its recommendation that everyone six months and older get the updated COVID-19 vaccine. A month later, consumers are still reporting trouble getting it.
Earlier in the pandemic, the federal government purchased the vaccine in bulk and distributed it to states. The process wasn't completely smooth, as demand far exceeded supply in late winter and early spring 2021.
Cahaba Medical Care, with 26 community clinics across Alabama, has not received any Covid vaccines since the 2023 booster rollout started in September.
According to HCPH, the updated vaccine is free for those six months and older without health insurance or whose insurance does not cover all COVID-19 vaccine costs.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend everyone who has not had a COVID-19 shot in the last two months get the newly updated vaccine, which rolled out last month. Read more for info on testing and more.
