Deputies came to find Donald Skibbe, 79, had fallen through the ice and Ryan Huff, 59, holding him up with a rope. Fortunately, Deputy Matthew Grimm was able to help Skibbe above the ice until fire departments arrived to aid the Skibbe and Huff with minor injuries and exposure to the cold water. A 76-year-old Berrien Township man is recovering after falling through the ice on O’Brien Lake near Berrien Center on Wednesday. The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department says 76-year-old Donald Skibbe and 59-year-old Ryan Huff were ice fishing when it Skibbe fell through. Sheriff’s deputies were sent to the scene in the 8500 block of Lake Road shortly after 5:30 p.m. and found Huff holding up Skibbe in the water with a rope.
