Came and got us. it was pretty much the same thing as happened a couple years ago. i think the response has been a lot better so far. jordan, we have a picture right now of your evacuating with your colleagues there. you have your hands up. what were you told when you were leaving the building? i think it s pretty standard protocol to keep your hands up don t make any sudden movements, stay close to the person in front of you. in any situation, they re not sure who it is that might be around. and you just follow directions of the police and law enforcement around us. when you say it was 7:30 or 7:40 and someone was yelling to you stay away from the cafeteria, you know take cover, who was yelling that? i m not sure who she was. it was a woman i assume that s in our office or at least on our floor. but i didn t get a chance to see her. i started running. ....

Contractor killing 12 people. so many people injured in that incident. we don t know what the scenario is here. this seems to be a situation that is developing rapidly. obviously you recall that day with horror i m sure because you were there on the ground seeing the aftermath of all that. this is very close to that same building, do we know? reporter: we don t have specifics on exactly where on the grounds this may have happened. the only information that we have is that there is a report of an active shooter at the navy yard. it is in that general vicinity. and you know going back to 2013, i remember speaking to someone who actually witnessed the shooting and he explained such graphic details. so i know in speaking to many of those people that it was quite traumatic. you know, you show up for work one day not expecting this sort of situation only to see something like that unfold before your very eyes. ....

Been concerned about all week the concern of the holiday, and corresponding with ramadan, so i certainly think all of that contributed to today s response but at the same time there has been a history there at the navy yard in that building from the shooting there a couple years ago, so i m sure that also played a role. thank you pamela. federal authorities have put out a nationwide alert, has already been stepped up for the holiday. let s bring in our justice reporter evan perez. you were among the first on the scene at the navy yard. people were frightened. it was visible. there were people shaking, women hugging each other. this was a traumatic event for them and there were people i talked to who came out building 197, which is the building where a shooter stalked the has, and shooting them so the fear was very real very palpable. ....

So there is high security especially in light of what happened in 2013 here that shooting that is just so fresh in the mind of everyone here. i can tell you, john out of the camera view here you can see there are ambulances and other police that seem to be sort of staging waiting if they are needed, if anything is needed here. a bit of i would say not a panic out here at all. there s just a bit of confusion as to what is going on inside. and we re trying to get a better sense of that right now. jeff i know you ve had a chance to talk to some people who were supposed to be reporting to work at the navy yard this morning but were told not to go into the building because of this possible active shooter scene. did you hear any reports of gunshots heard? reporter: no i did not. i ve been on the scene for about 30 minutes or so and talking to several workers who were trying ....

building 197. we believe building 197 where the previous shooting happened. so building 197. and we know they have gone through that building going room to room. so far, though they have not found anything. no one has been shot. but i can just tell you given the history of the navy yard given the fact that we re right around the 4th of july holiday, the threat level is significantly high. authorities don t want to take any chances here. they want to bring out everything they can to ensure that it s a safe situation. the scene obviously as we see hasn t been cleared yet. it s still an active situation as far as them searching, going room to room. right now we re being told nothing has been found and this apparently began with a phone call placed to 911. was that person able to ascertain if that phone call came from on the base? we re not sure yet. it s difficult to immediately know where the phone call was coming from. we saw that with bomb threated ....
