SUNGAI PETANI: A fisherman is feared to have drowned after falling into the river when his boat was struck by lightning in an incident at the river mouth of Sungai Merbok, near here, early today.
Kuala Muda police chief ACP Adzli Abu Shah said the victim, identified as Mohd Nasir Marzuki, 33, had gone out fishing with his friend, Sobri Hussin, 35, from Pengkalan Bakar Arang Jetty, near here at about midnight.
He said at about 4am, when the fishermen were setting up nets at the mouth of the river about 300m from the beach, the front of the boat was suddenly struck by lightning, causing the victim to faint and fall into the river. ....

Man steals from own family to settle debts


MELAKA: A 33-year-old man admitted to breaking into his own family s home at Bukit Lintang here to settle his debts.
Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Afzanizar Ahmad said police arrested the suspect and his 44-year-old girlfriend for the alleged robbery on Saturday (March 6) after the 28-year-old brother of the suspect lodged a report at Tiang Dua police station on the same day.
He said the victim in his police report stated that his family members had lost RM6,000 in cash, 15 pieces of jewellery belonging to his father and sister, and a credit card in the break-in.
The arrest was made by my officers from Melaka Tengah police headquarters, ACP Afzanizar said on Sunday (March 7). ....
