Vor drei Jahren schrieb der Bundesrat, dass ein Chemieexport von Basel nach Syrien harmlos gewesen sei. Die 2014 gelieferten Chemikalien habe der syrische Pharmahersteller MPI vollständig für ein Medikament eingesetzt, das unter Lizenz von Novartis produziert wurde. Inzwischen deuten alle Indizien darauf hin, dass die Behauptung des Bundesrats nicht stimmen kann. Vier Tonnen Isopropanol der Basler Brenntag Schweizerhall AG wurden nämlich abgezweigt und möglicherweise für die Produktion des international verbotenen Nervenkampfstoffs Sarin verwendet.
