300 Masbate learners receive free dental health services

(Photo from Masbate SDO's Facebook page) LEGAZPI CITY - Around 300 pupils from kindergarten to Grade 3 of three public schools in Masbate province have received free dental health services early this week from the Department of Education Schools Division Office Health and Nutrition Unit of Masbate (DepEd-Masbate) in collaboration with Philippine Dental Association (PDA)-Masbate Chapter. In an interview on Friday, Dr. Sionita Arevalo, dentist in charge of the Masbate Schools Division, said it is a continuing project as part of the celebration of Oral Health Month. "We are targeting at least 18 schools from Burias Island and Ticao Island to conduct free dental health services for learners from kinder to Grade 3. We are also considereing situations in the different areas," Arevalo said. The parents and guardians of the children thanked the organizers for extending and conducting the said services in their community. "Learners of Burgos Elementary School, Panisijan Elementary School, and Buenavista Integrated School all in Masbate province, were the recipients. They received free fluoride varnish application, tooth extraction and pit and fissures sealant that will help their teeth become healthy and strong," Arevalo said. She also said aside from free dental services, dentists distributed dental kits and school supplies to the learners. At least eight dentists from the DepEd and five private practitioners joined the activity. Isah Espejon, 33, has a child in second grade and said through Project Kusog, she was able to learn more about proper dental care for her daughter. Lerna Arisgado, 66, was very happy for her grandchild who has crooked teeth, after receiving free dental services. "Kaila la namon [sir] kay nagkadi kamo sa barangay namon, naayos na an ngipon san akon na apo(We are very happy that you came here in our barangay. 10 Zambales schools to join pilot face-to-face classes

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga - Ten schools in Zambales have been included in the pilot implementation of face-to-face classes that will start this November 15, the Department of Education (DepEd) said on Tuesday. The schools identified ready for face-to-face learning in Zambales are the Burgos Elementary School, Owaog-Nebloc Elementary School, Moraza Elementary School, Belbel Elementary School, Maguisguis Integrated School, Nacolcol Integrated School, Palis Integrated School, all in Botolan town; Baliwet Elementary School and San Marcelino National High School, both in San Marcelino town; and Banawen Elementary School in San Felipe town. With the collaboration of the DepEd and the Department of Health (DOH), these schools underwent thorough assessments to determine their readiness and safety to conduct face-to-face classes. DepEd-Zambales Assistant School Superintendent Michelle Mejica said in a radio interview the selected schools were among the 42 learning institutions nominated by the Schools Division of Zambales. "The team created by DepEd and DOH conducted school safety assessment among the 42 schools and these schools passed which are on the minimal risk areas," Mejica said. She said the schools were likewise validated by the Zambales schools division team to determine the level of readiness for the safe reintroduction of the face-to-face learnings. She cited the need for the concurrence of the local government units (LGUs) expressing support to the pilot implementation of the holding of physical classes in the selected schools. "We are working on the memorandum of agreement with the provincial government headed by Governor Hermogenes Ebdane and the local executives of the three LGUs where the selected schools are located," Mejica said. She likewise underscored the need for the consent of the parents of those students enrolled in the schools. She added that contingency plans are being readied in case the number of Covid-19 cases increases in the schools' location areas. (PNA) }
