ABC 10/CW5 They say there’s nothing like flying a plane. Youth from around the state joined the Civil Air Patrol in Hanger 2 at Houghton County Memorial Airport this week. The kids came together as a part of Michigan Tech’s Summer Program. The instructors covered a broad range of topics. Civil Air Patrol is the longtime auxiliary of the United States’ Air Force. The organization plays a leading role in stem and aerospace education, and its members serve as mentors to about 25,000 young people participating in Cap’s Cadet Programs nationwide.
Wednesday, March 31, 2021 San Marcos Mayor Jane Hughson recently presented three cadets from the David Lee "Tex" Hill Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol in San Marcos the Billy Mitchell Award. Cadet 2nd Lieutenants Lincoln Brewer, Connor Hawkins and Jeremiah Wood received the award from Hughson at a ceremony at the squadron building adjacent to the San Marcos Airport. The Mitchell Award marks completion of Phase II of the CAP Cadet Program, recognizing sustained excellence in all four areas of cadet life: leadership, aerospace, fitness, and character.
