Local players’ Covid-stalled plans to set up new airlines are springing back to life as work on the new Phnom Penh airport ploughs ahead, a senior aviation official told The Post.
Prime Minister Hun Sen on December 9 called for the purchase of the remaining portion of $300 million in bonds issued by Cambodia Airport Investment Co Ltd (CAIC) for the development of a new international airport that is set to serve the capital.
Southeastern Phnom Penh’s colossal 125ha Koh Norea satellite city project is pressing ahead, with river filling on track to be completed by the end of this year, according to Touch Samnang, deputy director-general of developer Overseas Cambodian Investment Corp Ltd (OCIC).

The foundation of the multi-purpose “Financial Building” in central Phnom Penh’s Olympia City development has been completed, but construction progress has been slightly bogged down by Covid-compliance measures as the pandemic situation escalates, according to the project manager.
Breaking ground early last month just north of the National Olympic Stadium, the $50 million building comprises a series of eight- and 10-storey segments – with three basement floors for car parking – that house shops, hospitals and restaurants, and 27 flats measuring 24m by 8.2m each.

Land reclamation presses on at a cracking pace in southeastern Phnom Penh’s colossal 125ha Koh Norea satellite city project a year on from the Covid-19 pandemic as preliminary infrastructure development reaches 45 per cent completion, according to the management of Overseas Cambodian Investment Corp Ltd (OCIC).
OCIC plans to spend a total of $2.5 billion to develop the project – located in Chbar Ampov district’s Niroth commune opposite Koh Pich, which is also known as Diamond Island.
