According to a statement from Ian McLeod at the Department of Justice, the launch of said review, “Is the independent responsibility of Parliament.”
Freeman said her goal is to raise awareness and to help other crime victims, “so they won’t have to endure this.”
That’s why she speaks at universities on the topic. That’s why she wrote a book that helps victims compose their impact statements for court.
“The only other place you can find information on writing victim impact statements is from the parole board,” said Freeman, “the last people on earth who should be offering that advice.”
I felt like: Wow, if I had known this sooner, I could have been getting more information in the beginning and not eight months later, where I feel like some of this information is now lost.

Police found MacDougall, 37, dead at her home while performing a wellness check on March 11. When they broke the news to her family, Bates says they indicated she could have died of suicide, or an accidental overdose. (MacDougall previously had a problem with drug use, but her sister doesn t believe it could be a factor in her death.)
