Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell has pinned the blame for "candidate quality" issues on former U.S. President Donald Trump during the midterm elections.

McConnell said his approach in 2022 was to "do the best you can with the cards you're dealt," which often meant going along with Trump's picks.

Republicans are working behind the scenes to make sure the same problems with "candidate quality" do not doom them in 2024, as they did in 2022.
