Does eric cantor have some sort of an obligation, ethical, moral obligation to step down as majority leader now that he s a lame duck, basically? no. he has an obligation to do what will happen to the republican party if he doesn t? he has an obligation to do what his conference wants him to do. they will meet. speaker boehner will weigh in. cantor is prepared to do what people want him to do at this point, you have a loss like this, you don t have a lot of clout so up for his fellow members to decide what they want. that out is important. going into the mid-term elections. fundraise. huge. as house majority leader you re trying to heard the cats on key votes. you re not the whip, you re not counting votes but you have to influence people. the fact that you lose your primary and you essentially don t even have your district backing you up, that is going to ....

Thank everybody. never mind that. he slobbered him 56% to 44%. and since we hear about people buying elections, here s the truly shocking part. cantor raised some $5.4 million, most of which he spent. by comparison, brat raised $300,000. campaign expense shows that cantor s team spent more money eating and drinking at steak houses than brat spent all together. dan abash said a tea party win of this magnitude bodes ill for compromise. that was one of the specific difference. that was used against them. the message to them was negotiation and compromise could ....

Today just listening to this guy s stump speech. dave brat? dave brat. what did he really campaign on? a lot of the conversation has been about immigration. at the end of the campaign, there s no doubt that sort of was the issue that crystalized in the race. he spent the spring talking about government collusion with big business. he tied eric cantor to wall street. he tied eric cantor to corporate interests and lobbyists in washington. some ways he sounded almost like elizabeth warren on the left. so he ran this very populist, you know, conservative campaign against big business. and this more than i think immigration even is becoming the big fault line in the republican party. there s a rise in this anti-wall street sentiment. and even when he talked about immigration, he talked about it not as an anti-immigrant proposition, but as something that was a boone to big business. big business was just going into washington and lobbying for cheap supply of labor. he is an economics p ....

Up. sharing with the washington post that cantor had 62% to 28%. how could that poll have been so wrong, mark preston? i ve been on the phone all night talking to washington and virginia. they are laying the blame not only at eric cantor but at his political consultants. to your point, eric cantor wasn t tending to business back home. as one operative said to me a short time ago be it is difficult to be in the leadership at the same time representing your district. i think that s where we saw with eric cantor. he was trying to have it both ways. only a couple years ago, cantor was seen as the voice, so to speak, for the tea party within the leadership. the last couple years he seemed to be moderating his views a little bit. as someone said tonight, you can t have it both ways. live by the swortd, die by the sword. tonight eric cantor died by the sword. i want you to hear what eric ....

Party represents is being rejected. and then what do they do next? how do they do it without doing what they said they wouldn t do which is own the tea party? and that really becomes the key question. the less sonon is going to be h the tea party tighter. can you do that? they said they wouldn t. lindsey graham said he wouldn t. the contrast of lindsey graham after backing senate immigration reform and passing it and cantor who gets targeted for mentioning what maybe possibly kewe ll do it and gets accused of amnesty. when you get the low turnout primaries and people are not paying attention to, they can be easily hijacked by activists, no question eric cantor wouldn t have won a general election in his district. but these primaries can take out people because all their paranoid about isn t reaching out to the senator, it s being cannib cannibalized by the far right. he wouldn t do the whole ....
