grip of a severe heat wave with several countries experiencing sweltering conditions. hello. we begin in ukriane, where russia s launched its biggest wave of drone attacks on the country in months. ten regions were targeted, and at least three civilians were killed. this comes after a lull in russian attacks on civilian targets in recent months, which saw the capital kyiv go days without an attack. the southern city of odesa has also been targeted. russia has stepped up its aerial attacks ahead of an expected offensive by ukraine. a ukrainian general in bakhmut said russia had intensified its shelling of the devastated city too. russia s wagner group boss says moscow has agreed to his demands for more ammunition days after he threatened to withdraw his men from bakhmut. russian troops and fighters from wagner, a private military company, have been trying to capture bakhmut for months, despite the city s questionable strategic value. british foreign ministerjames cleve ....

welcome to world news america on pbs and around the globe. we begin in france where more than a hundred police officers have been injured in the latest protests over pension reforms. demonstrators used the traditional may day rallies, to voice their continued anger, against president emmanuel macron s plans. these protests have been widespread. take a look at the figures. according to the interior ministry, more than 780,000 protesters hit the streets across the country. that includes 112 thousand in the capital, paris alone. but the country s hard left cgt union, says the figure is actually three times that number. at issue of course is president macron s plans to raise the retirement age from 62, to 64. he signed the legislation last month, and the meaures are due to take effect in september. 0ur europe correspondent, nick beake has the latest. singing. the may day march, a french tradition reaching back decades, but fuelling this year s protests, the vision of a futu ....
