Palma, Archbishop of Cebu, to declare within the Archdiocese a Special Jubilee Year, along with the attached plenary indulgence,” the Archdiocese of Cebu announced on Monday, March 1. “The same Authority has likewise conceded the Archbishop of Cebu the faculty to impart to the Christian faithful participating the yearlong jubilee celebration, which will start from April 4, 2021 to April 22, 2022, the Apostolic Blessing of His Holiness,” said the archdiocese. ....

In a statement, church officials said they will kick off the activities on April 4, 2021 with a solemn liturgical rite of opening the Holy Door of the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral. Similar celebrations will also be observed in eight other churches, including the oldest and farthest parishes of the Archdiocese Sts. Peter and Paul Parish in Bantayan town, Bantayan Island in northern Cebu; Nuestra Señora del Patrocinio de Maria Parish in Boljoon, San Guillermo de Aquitania Parish in Dalaguete, St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Argao, St. Catherine de Alexandria Parish in Carcar City and St. Anne Parish in Barili in the southern Cebu; San Nicolas Parish in Cebu City; and National Shrine of St. Joseph Parish in Mandaue City. ....

January 10, 2021 TWO contingents that signed up for the Sinulog 2021 ritual showdown are asking for a refund. The Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) and the steering committee of Sinulog 2021 recently announced the cancelation of all Sinulog cultural performances this month. Contingents may still be able to perform in April during the celebration of 500 years of Christianity in the country, but only if the coronavirus threat abates. San Nicolas Proper Barangay Captain Clifford Jude Niñal said he already spent more than P100,000 for the barangay’s contingent. Before starting preparations and rehearsals in November last year, he said he took out a loan to pay for the participants’ costumes and props. ....
