When SCAD Senior and photographer Robin Elise Maaya began photographing twins for a class project, she never imagined the direction it would take her work, or the close relationship she would develop with the family of one of her subjects. Maaya was introduced to the Pendergrass family (Christine, or Chrissy, Scott, Alexa, and twins Ava and Ruby) through her professor, Jaclyn Cori Norman, while working on a book of photography. At that point Maaya had already photographed ten pairs of twins. “I had them wearing the exact same outfits,” explained Maaya. “I took them to Hutchinson Island over the bridge and photographed them all in the tall grass. It was very portraiture, very back-to-back, very much focusing on their identical features.”
