NHS England NHS gives women Human Papillomavirus Virus (HPV) home testing kits to cut cancer deaths More than 31,000 women will be offered kits to carry out smear tests in the privacy and convenience of their own homes in a trial, NHS England has announced. The swab tests will be posted to women or given out by a GP to increase take-up of screening for the Human Papillomavirus Virus (HPV), which can lead to cervical cancer. The home swab is a simple way for women to do the test themselves, rather than have one done for them by a general practice nurse.

Who needs to have a smear test? Just like any other medical test, the process and waiting for results (which takes about two weeks) is daunting, and you’d probably rather not do it - but it is essential for all women between the ages of 25 and 64. When you’re aged between 25 and 49, you have to have a smear test every three years. Then when you are 50 to 64 you will only need to go every five years. Women aged above 65 will only be invited for a test if one of their last three tests gave abnormal results. Can you order a 'DIY' at home smear test kit on the NHS?

The Loose Women panel were at it again on Friday with their need to overshare. Nadia Sawalha, Stacey Solomon, Judi Love and Kaye Adams appeared on the panel to discuss a campaign featuring different breeds of cats, encouraging women to undergo their smear tests. The NHS/My GP campaign shows a bald sphinx cat, as well as furrier breeds, and is aimed to coax women not to be put off having routine check ups because they might be self-conscious about how groomed their private parts are. Scarlett Moffatt has revealed that she's had abnormal cells removed from her cervix after having her latest smear test. The Gogglebox star, 30, candidly detailed how she had a Lletz treatment, saying she was 'anxious' and 'scared' before the procedure as she didn't know what to expect.
