Guwahati, Jan 13 : The Gauhati High Court on Tuesday put an interim stay on the notification of Assam Assembly Secretary withdrawing recognition to Congress leader Debabrata Saikia as the Leader of the Opposition, court officials said.
Justice Achintya Malla Bujor Barua, hearing a petition filed by Saikia, issued notice returnable within two weeks to the Assembly Speaker, Chief Secretary, Secretary and Principal Secretary of the Assembly.
Saikia had filed the writ petition challenging the notification issued by the Assembly Secretary on January 1, removing his recognition as Leader of Opposition.
