Hindi Sahitya Mandal honours Jang S. Verman, Sham Sajan with Ramesh Mehta Memorial Award- 2022

Jammu, November 13(Scoop News)- Hindi Sahitya Mandal (HSM), Jammu today organized a function at K L Saigal Auditorium Hall, Writers Club, Cultural Academy, Jammu to honour cultural critic- journalist, painter- cum- writer- Jang S. Verman and famous Ghazalkar- poet- Singer- composer Sham Sajan with the Ramesh Mehta Memorial Award- 2022, the second edition of the award established and implemented jointly by the family of Late Sh. Ramesh Mehta, and Hindi Sahitya Mandal in the memory of late Ramesh Mehta, writer- Eeditor- former Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. Dr. Adarsh, a well known Hindi writer presided over the function. Dr. Arvinder Singh Amn Additional Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages was the chief guest on this occasion. Smt. Brij Mohini w/o Late Sh. Mehta, Dr. Chanchal Dogra, President, HSM, and Senior Vice- president Shamendra Kumar shared the dais. The award was announced on the recommendations of the jury nominated by the family of Sh. Mehta. This award was given to both the selected- winning culture workers in a ceremony on the eve of Ramesh Mehta's upcoming birthday on 13th November.
The programme started with the formal welcome by Sh. Shamendra Kumar, Senior Vice- President, HSM. In his address he gave a brief of the activities of HSM.
In his presidential address Dr. Adarsh appreciated the hearty contribution of the award winners- Sham Sajan and Jang S. Verman in the field of culture and its promotion. He shared his memoriries with the spirited Ramesh Mehta. Dr. Arvinder Singh Amn in his address said that the award winning cultural activists Jang S. Verman and Sham Sajan are whole heartedly devoted for the cause of culture in its varied forms. Dr. Chanchal Dogra, Sh. Anil segal and Sh. Gopal shared their views and memories with Sh. Ramesh Mehta. The introduction of the awardees was read out by Dr. Sunil Sharma.
This award is given to those persons who are working in the fields related to literary, performing and visual arts, including music, Hindi and English and writing, Hindi journalism, and the intention to provide help for the promotion of education and literature of Hindi and performing and fine arts etc. in recognition of their excellent work & contribution. This time ‘Ramesh Mehta Memorial Award- 2022’ in its second edition, has been given to Sham Sajan and Jang S. Verman in recognition of their outstanding contribution to music- culture and cultural- journalism respectively.
It may be mentioned here that Jang S. Verman has contributed in the field of art, culture, literature and column writing on art & culture. His art has been displayed across many countries of the world and different states of the country. He has been honoured with many national and state level awards. Sham Sajan is a promising and well established Ghazal writer, music composer and singer. He has performed his performances at a large number of cultural programmes, and has been honoured by many organizations.
The award consisted of prize money of Rs. 11000/-, a Citation, Shreephal and a Doshala was presented to the award winners each. Prof. Kiran Bakshi, renowned Hindi story writer and a retired Principal; Prof. (Dr.) Chanchal Dogra, poet and a retired Principal; and Prof. (Dr.) Lalit Magotra, Dogri story writer; retired HoD Physics, Jammu University; former Convener- Dogri at Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi; and the President of Dogri Sanstha, Jammu, are included in the permanent jury of Ramesh Mehta Memorial Award.
The prominent among the personalities present on this occasion included Prof. Lalit Magotra, President, Dogri Sanstha, S. Popinder Singh Paras, editor Sheeraza Punjabi Dr. Monojit, President, Punjabi Lekhak Sabha, S. Harjit Singh Uppal, president, Punjabi Sahitak Sabha, R S Pura, Smt raj Bharti, President Viraj Kala Kendra, Dr. Javaid Rahi, Dr. Pawan Khajuria and Sanjiv Bhasin, Vice Presidents of HSM, Prof. Raj Kumar, former President HSM, Rakesh Abrol, General Secretary HSMand others.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Smt. Uma Sharma, Literary Secretary, HSM-J. Vote of thanks was extended by S. Inderjit Singh Member HSM-J.

Lt Governor Manoj Sinha chairs meeting with experts from power sector
As the winter wreaked havoc, the power scenario in the valley was comparatively better, this time. Continuing the efforts to put in place better infrastructure and improved services in the sector, the measures are being taken and monitored at the top level. Taking review and seeking response from the field experts, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired two meetings in a week. Directing concerned officers to work for making things “best,” LG Sinha asked them to work on war footing to identify critical issues, their probable causes and likely mitigations in order to further improve the scenario of the power supply system in J&K. Giving nod to undertake projects being undertaken under various schemes, the meeting was told that J&K government has started strengthening the 33/11 KV substations for better power supply to various under-serviced areas. The experts in the team have prepared a detailed report. They have deliberated upon the short-term solutions for transformer and link strengthening, augmentation of transmission and distribution system. There is also a roadmap for future course of action, besides the identification of issues like pilferage, overloading, ageing of transformers and their impact on power supply. Besides, the experts with JKPDD and JKPDC have held a series of meetings where immediate and short-term plans to strengthen the infrastructure and ensure improved power supply status in the Union Territory of J&K have been discussed along with identification and aligning on critical supply gaps. Also, many extensive exploratory meetings and surveys have been conducted with the local teams on transmission sites and distribution issues. The experts have Chairperson, Board of Directors, IIT Bhubaneswar and former Chairman and MD PGCIL Dr Rajendra Prasad Singh led the team of experts from the power sector. The meetings were also attended by Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam, Principal Secretary Power Development Department and Information Department Rohit Kansal and Principal Secretary to Lieutenant Governor Nitishwar Kumar.
