BBC Radio Lincolnshire-20191030-140000

It was a long day and Maria and baby say Ray j. Link could show you're listening to Carla Grange good afternoon I was watching tenable yesterday and I want to wildlife are late I would worry Davis he has that as a name one of the questions was about Blondie was what was that the top 10 best selling singles that wasn't one of them and it came a bit late in it but I really like that woman it's a great song got some great guests all on the show as well today including Brian blasted. Oh yeah. That taken from Flash Gordon one of the many films he set featured in you'll hear his voice at the moment he stars in Peppa Pig something I watch all the time of course because of my little girly place crampy rabbit but he's done so much more than that and he's coming to grant them to tell you all about it he'll be at some Wolfram's this weekend to talk about his life and my goodness what a life he's led not only is he an actor and raconteur But of course he's also an explorer as well as me having climbed Mount Everest or attempted to climb Mount Everest twice without oxygen he plans to retire he's 83. His wife will apparently allow it I don't think she's got much choice but he continues to explore he's climbed Kilimanjaro as well and so also had cosmonaut training as well in Russia what a man he is you'll hear from him in just a moment after this. With the and. Heart chocolates and everyone so we're now on b.b.c. Radio Lincolnshire I felt like a winner when I got to chat to one of my heroes Brian bless it I don't know what it is often fascinated with this man since I was about 3 years old I just think he's remarkable that you could go and see it was coming to us and Wolfram's Jad in Grantham on Saturday he'll be so King about his life his numerous films and t.v. Shows as well including Flash Gordon Dr Who Kenneth Branagh's Shakespeare films as well he starred in a lot of those he's had a career spanning more than 50 years so and he's also denied for exploration as well with his trips to Mount Everest amongst other things my goodness what a man he is 83 he's just tired and he reckons he's going back up Mount Everest he's going to give it another go bearing in mind he does this without oxygen. He's now in for his bathing voice isn't a he's an absolute talent but he talks in this shy about his childhood as well in life growing up in South Yorkshire with his parents which is where we started when we had a chat it was a step very very exciting time I mean our daughter up with drama brought up with my dad we were all of our Mort. I didn't go you know what I mean I actually got a big fella grabbing broad shoulders who were no bar No Pit Bar and he come back you know the gas lights of the mist it comes to the mix with you so much all it. And any comments of it pick me up and carry me into the house so I'm reading the be you know dad really amazing Mr x. And it came to the very last fall and it was like a novelty sad that my room there was my mother of course mothers of us what it will be the world I remember mother was. Was a great big fire black kettle on the fire and there was reason you know to Saturday night or. Not or didn't bomb it was a very exciting time and I guess I really just every weekend to see Flash Gordon. In the local cinema and I was pretended out to reduce you get an episode each week and either would pretend to be a voter on the flying or woman looking at the old man I never thought that one day I'd actually played in a film but we'll talk about that little bit later if we may I wanted to mention something else and I read in your book a sort of gold management from from your childhood when you remember seeing Mal odds I'm like I'm a typical right that the speed record just outside of grant them in a good shot at you when we could really are a bunch of I don't have to plan to see it and he burst through the mist 1 November evening all with his tenders and through the mist is great blue Moby Dick I'm a just sent to my knee as a good sign saying the Flying Scotsman had seen I things like that and the red dragon of Wales and the cock of an old always going to Black Prince all these great trains at the. Jesus Christ Well that's right I mean defies description I mean that I mean about trains mean the trains are not bloody 'd trains are. Kind of glamorize electrical busses Well we talked about you Dad and the memories you have as a family with these helmets that lifts out walking through the mist that of course mining that the maiden industry hit in the area but it was an industry you didn't want to say to to get involved in Weldon and you were right in that most coal mine didn't want to the sun was to get on the mine eyes to find it. And it's a nightmare because my dad was gassed 3 times and my dad was crushed once a rescue people from fires family was. Badly injured in the day for his life any or all worry that he'd 'd die of shock but 'd he survived and so I went to leave school 14 and became an undertaker's assistant to an extra 3 pounds to my mother there were tough days but all my uncles and all that they were artistic people this is the length the blue head of your shows full of drama gave Barron Judi Dench Patrick Stewart you name it Betty is to come and visit me 2 years younger than me and sit in my little room my box room and probably that video we do Shakespeare together from the age of 9 Well this was something else all right and I was amazed that you had such a long friendship with Patrick Stewart also made. It read he had elocution lessons . When I was going to Adelaide it while we went on drama course was in the called the valley and there were professional teachers we couldn't believe it and Patrick and I did plays with them for a week and I was part of the mix prepared to give orders all my school teachers are in it and they were brilliant actors and I played Heath Griffin weathering eyes. Bramble Bronte and one avoids it was impossible for Patrick and me to go professional because he was a son of the milkman and I was a son of a cone hero is unheard of and anyway we went in and we did a lot of amateur theatre and then we had these marvelous train is a speech now we didn't want to lose our Yorkshire expression he's a great teacher said you don't keep your Yorkshire expression but we'll teach you to speak and otherwise you'll be limited to a Yorkshire accent for Hamlet in Othello and things like that I mean practical because when I meet him you 'd know on rare occasions now we have this friendship between you know good. Roger keep cropping up about these mountains are likely pretty good about going to die yes every soured when he was 40 or 40 years of age that I losing my hair or yet not I just as you just know well the visit his parents had not being there a different house elder 'd mind is really to wrestling eyes to resume that in mind which confused Patrick Marion is as a very Victorian and 'd a dad quite severe and so forth and everybody everyone was booked. I thought crimes done sorry that you're going to be bald. Men so I cannot believe that somebody was bolted and looks like to mention who is a sex symbol in America. Regards stop it stop it stop it but every time I read your replies we are. Going to get killed on the next mountain. To go somewhere on. Well I'm not going to look. You know I've got. Brian blasted their chat saying about his life growing up in South Yorkshire with his dad to his friendship with Patrick Stuart a friendship which remains and how he 1st got into acting of course there's more to come there's more plenty more by chat with Brian he talks a little bit more about his acting career is that cause Of course one of the 1st things that he started on the baby say corner as well and we'll talk about some of those sex but he's taken that as well so that says Still to come baby see right now there let's go to the right b.b.c. Radio in Lincolnshire travel a. Couple of problems here and there we had flooding yesterday in Newark the a 617 remains closed today this is from a cattle market run about a blacksmith line a Khalam Truckee diverting on to the 861-6815 of getting through Clinton as we're busy as well towards the north brought was the Lincoln Road and Lincoln itself just a few delays a 46 of the rice home roundabout Saxby road coming into the city nestling relatively busy as well and it's also touch busy busy coming into Boston on Spalding road coming in from the London Road direction and the else happening any of the delays that was spotted on Farmville to some 500 or 6 I'm some in James b.b.c. Radio Lincolnshire travel it's not time to deal with Stern to the must be made because of the neighbor. To the break being brave This is Boston. And so the fancy dress full bore this is disconcerting. Because it's time for the b.b.c. Children in the us so get everyone together and get ready to do something. This is. Thanks. To that song the theme to Flash Gordon who starred in Flash Gordon Well of course it was Brian blasted who is coming to Lincoln so he'll be at some Wolfram's on Saturday in Grafton talking about his life he was in numerous films and t.v. Shows including Dr hay was when he was in that. Which really was was the moment he he was on. And I had a chat with that Bryan about the early days of his acting career I mean eventually other I went to drama school the best 'd so there is a school 'd which. Colleges get me a scholarship my parents couldn't believe my 1st year was not you know let 4 lb Knight you know 'd 'd 6 a week and 7 Swope was about May and that played big parts and I went on the friend of the reps I mean I met with about Ajax and great big leaves. And then quite suddenly I was on television I was in this. Huge it was because the Beatles. 62 I was cast as census ratings at cars and it was live 45 minutes 5 in 5 minutes so I think some of the episodes in 'd many experts agree with me not because I was in it but in some of the television ins that counts is the finest television as it was so real we limited to the b.b.c. One them it's a b.b.c. Turn on t.v. And so the nation way to read the headlines of every paper every week because it was a controversial and this tough guy Francis if I really see wonderful time and as a big success imagine even 2 'd years that I want to go any longer. I want to do other things and the b.b.c. Said right Brian of a castle in the 3 musketeers with Jeremy Brett Daniel and this shocked the nation that Brian Blessed as fantasy Smith that is great you don't call me a. Tough guy then I'm on a white horse dressed in pink can lead with long and the porter was Mr devalue the brat you're the beautiful photos the great Musketeer the Muslim boy and the Musketeers and the nation was stunned and loved it and I just went on from then on that I've never been out of work doing films and television and it was astonishing that you mention fly school in. The visor that used to March with the child of course and you went on to star in it and I noted that the the one phrase that you're always asked to say from that failure were I girl I mean every 2nd you never get the butcher the baker the gals to make a run up to royalty after Prime Minister Oh you know police say they go all day and sell all day for it. Everyone I go to I mean I mean a few years ago when I reach the North Pole because I mean I'm I'm 50 percent actor 50 percent Explorer and a Russian submarine can prove the ice typhoon submarine like a Red October and the captain came out through the turret and looked at as and said Oh it's true sir good did a lot of. Good some alternative to this. Bloody Russian submarine. I couldn't believe it and this happens to me and give them a job I met them out so I offered up Kilimanjaro the Middle River jumbo or the who Bruce Gordon. So I mean it's everywhere I go I mean if I walk down the street or I'm in London doing I do a lot of voice 'd services you know they want my voice. People shouting from taxis it bro I burned so I go to the horrible myself You mention some of the the adventures you've undertaken. Not that I have your family still allow it and yes I did I miss and I were you know suddenly I would say well you can then go and watch your next among go. Yes. And can I I don't know many actors I think the. Closest to Kenneth Branagh and kind of run away have a father son relationship 'd and the Son is the father is in those odd can 'd be and he will ask me what you do next and I said Well and then to Mongolia and he has the same reaction as when I was good got well I mean I expect he won't feel that project advice Jack what I'm doing for most basic training I intend to 'd go to the 'd bottom Lucy 35000 feet down the money on a strange I get back to Everest again but I'm directing a lot adding love a success directing Grey's elevator and. Enormous recess and at the same time you know and I'm loving writing a living writing books so the day the days are long enough to buy you a latch again back to Everest with your white flower Yes I just. Remember I remember her in a my wife once said when 'd I said Tomorrow I said Ramanna Mig 29 they want to go in the Midwest a friend of a Moscow they want not to put me in a make 2 engine aren't to go to 'd 87200000 feet you can't that's one thing I draw the line I will stop on that one you mustn't do it it will kill you I said I did it yesterday. And said that we sold. Well he stated that leads us to chatted. And we did have food to see clearly I look forward to it I always feel happy when I'm going up north. Brian blasted talking about his career my goodness what a craze had his say 3 planning his next to escapade system hypes to go up Mount Everest again without oxygen I might add his coming to grant that he'll be at some Wolfram's on Saturday it's half past 7 start an evening with Brian blessid and to he'll be interviewed on stage by Steve Haley who will be auctioning film memorabilia and autographs as well from the other celebrities he's met but Brian blessid the main man for the evening talking about his career I'm expecting a long one to die. In a short stay car park would be my advice. Thanks . B.b.c. Radio. Jessie j. And price tag baby sea right Dad made. Never forget about the price tag you always have to check back in k.c. In the Sunshine Band before that would give it up to Andres voted to act he says I think that the k.c. Sunshine Band sing at sounds like Benny from Top Cat I can't think what he sounds like Andrew saw it just have to take I with you lovely to have you back says Andrew and Luca thank you very much by getting in touch as we have some music all for a different kind let's have a little bit of swaying it say in honor of the fact that said the r.f. Swing waiting will be performing once again at Lincoln's drill hole this autumn that back and they'll be delighting audiences with the music from original great such as Ted Heath and Glenn Miller. And. The way I. Am about. The room I am going to. Go only I. Am. Told. Thanks. I am. Let. Me. Glenn Miller and American patrol on baby say right here Lincoln said that song and many more from Glenn Miller and Ted Hayes there as well as the likes of from Michael do blind Gordon Goodwin will be performed at said the drill hole in Lincoln this weekend as it welcomes a back Aria swing wing and I'm delighted to say Mr Jeff Burton station officer for the Lincoln Center and nothing I'm sure our a.f. Association joins me now tapping away to that means that Jack I believe under the table wherever you are very very much so it's a it's a it's a wonderful air in some beautiful music I say wherever you are I do know that you are actually at r.s. Camp that the maven on even you've been showing us and showing people around yes I have a group of veterans at the moment that are having a station visit today at Oriel scamped And so it's kind of a broken away from the 2 of us each on the radio of a veteran who a would have served at Scamp than in their time I believe a couple of them do they're actually a branch or an or if Association branch from Nottingham Cher but they've come down here for the day oversee scum turn that haven't got much longer to go I'm afraid so they oversee took the opportunity of having a station visit today absolutely Well I hope they they enjoyed having a look round but if we of course are looking forward to seeing you performing I say you will you be performing or do you just look after the band now what myself and the the station Russell oh team so each are of station has a group of service men and women who fundraise and raise the profile of the area station so they are Association and they're called rustlers and they are the ones that are actually putting on this event and obviously I'm just coming along to the front and to chat to the audience of probably the half time so they're doing the privilege the the structure of it and organizing it and obviously they are e.f. College bound. From Well part of them is called the swing wing ground about 2020 pounds men and women who come along and for the last 10 probably 11 years now we've had the event and they provide an incredible evening's entertainment for for the audience who come along to the drivel I love that I've heard of the graph alive because I have a little girl but not Rafa lie. I like the NY It's very good when you come to perform there we've had a piece of me there from Glen Miller coffee you'll have Glad military a lot have more modern me there because while I think they'll be a whole choice each year the band master in the band change what they're going to do and it's really down to them anything within the swing as you mention Michael bublé But but the the music crosses so many generations from Glenn Miller Benny Goodman to keling turn would he have been as you said Ted Heath count Basey all foot tapping and it's naturally I think here whether you're whether you're kind of somebody in the teens or twenties or whether you're much older the music just naturally makes you want to tap and feel good and it's just the nature of that kind of music is it's wonderful it is that the ability forward to it how long has the power of had a swaying wing. Well that's a very good. I have to be honest and say a little secret 11 years ago that the event started 11 years ago when I was still in the r.a.f. And I was. Strange enough I was the organizer of the very 1st a vent so we certainly have the swing wing for that amount of time and I imagine probably another 5 or 10 years before that but I'm not sure but it's certainly a very valued part of of what the college fund does I can't offer to speak for them because they are there or there are a separate entity but yes everybody thoroughly enjoys the music and having that a separate part of the band that can do kind of shows inside and just give so much so many people so much pleasure and enjoyment say you were one of the organizers of the. Event 11 years ago you say was that real whole it was at the drill hole Yes and it was very much a case of we just put our toe in the water to see if we could and the event was designed obviously for to provide the music for people but obviously to fundraise for the r.f. Association in those days I was I was a rough follow but worked as a member of the r e f Now I actually work for the r.f. Association itself Goodness me and how is the event taken off it is a bigger every year it's different every year because obviously the drill hole was I think a seating capacity of just shy of $370.00 seats and every single year they sell out almost to a single seat so it's always a packed audience always a very very excitable and vibrant audience that come along most people probably don't have the area of connection but they enjoy the music and that's the thing that binds people together and it's a wonderful audience and a wonderful show each year absolutely I'm sure it will be this year as well I imagine raising money that's a big big part of base where does the money guy what he does they get spent on all the profits that come from the evening when you when you visit discounted everything else that we have to pay for all of the profits go to the r.f. Association obviously which is what the leading me. Shipping organization and charity that provides the welfare support to serving an ex members of the r.f. Personnel and their families so it goes directly into the heart of providing that welfare support brilliant brilliant well like good luck for the evening I keep thinking it's some time away being the 1st of November but of course it's almost upon math it's only yes and they're only I spoke to the box office today and there are only 70 or just under 70 tickets left so anybody that needs or would like to come along to it the drill all tell me there are 3 ways that they can do it if you if you don't mind me just saying they can either go on to the drill hole website which is obviously w w w dot Lincoln drill hole or one word dot com or they can email in on box office or one word at drill hole sorry Lincoln drill hole dot com All they can ring in 115-228-7389 extension 44 those that perhaps all familiar the drill all the entrance to it is on free school line at the back of Silva street parade no excuse in their daft that they've got to get into that in there and get a ticket thank you very much it's a thing the fact you have been there and that sleep lies there lovely thank you very much Carla thank you again you Jeff that and their station officer for the Lincolnshire and nothing I'm sure r.f. Association he was the one of the organizers of the 1st r.f. Swing wing event at the drill hole in Lincoln back for its 11th day on the 1st of November about 70 tickets less if you do want to go to get in touch with the drill hole and get your ticket now coming up to 10 to 3 let's go to the right b.b.c. The 6 o'clock connection b.b.c. Somerset. So we're on to Thursdays and this is by far one of the trickiest ones I think we have a hat and Mike from you wish to and has worked very hard to put this together for you so good luck with it could still be to do with the artist or the song title or the lyrics or something else in the song. It's up to you there's plenty of clues coming up. Now if you do then call I weigh 106781566 it's a free call there and you can tell em you answer where you can text your name with your answer to one trouble 3 Start your message with the word Somerset takes a challenge of your standard message right Ok let's get on with it good luck. Places. It's. A promise my eyes. Alone do. You. Get you. Didn't say. Hello. It's a good. Thing that sometimes. It's. Been. So you. Know. I'm gonna get it. To be you. hang on this is. Absolutely let's go to Bridgwater and say good morning to write we have a party that they. Don't. No we had to go down the back to get the teeth back me when I paid for that one I mean I've been trying to keep even if the clean up you will come back some sets people some sad stories Somerset's radio station back tomorrow from the c.b.c. The 6 o'clock connection on b.b.c. And you've still got 4 clues to go because quite a lot of these clues are not too long today so quite fits in it give you maybe more of a chance to get it right and join Barry said is it to do with London attractions it isn't afraid not ham salad for dinner though indifferent stop artists all singing about themselves no that's not right but enjoy your spag bol for dinner I've got jacket potatoes with something probably our thought and some salad and yes something like that. It is a tough one tonight I weigh 106-781-5668 number to call you can text the word Somerset your name your answer and send your message to 8 Twan trouble 3 Ok now the clue I just played you works on its own but it also works with this one. 3. Everybody was. And. By the. That. 3 clues to guy on the 6 call connection tonight Caroline in that made some of Norton says is it dogs I can I count to get where you go without but no Dean ever Creech is it war no it isn't I'm a fright but what I do have to say isn't it you know sometimes I wish I could give a price but I'm going to give but Graham in Wells Well done I genuinely did not think anybody would get this right in a 1000000 years but well done Graham in Wells is absolutely correct. So it can be done that 106781566 is the number to call or you can text the word Somerset your name and send your message to trouble 3 as I say 3 clues to go the extra song 6 6. It can be like. You. Would. You connect the song to 6 o'clock connection b.b.c. Somerset's. Much. Going on how much. a you. Came up with. The 6 o'clock connection probably the hardest one ever put together by Mike from Ariston I have enjoyed the clues and I promise you I will make sure there's an easier one to more not for you but I thought this was very clever and again well done to Graham in wells for getting it absolutely right nice to hear from you nothing to do with cats and dogs or Disney films closer with that one. Poor Fred the guinea pig is not feeling 100 percent tonight so he's on a heat pad while trying some carrot just take it easy all right. That Remember you only have a small heart don't go too mad all right. So I thought tell you what I played you and how it works then you'll pick it up as we go along so we had desert color Dick a dum dum So the dick in that can refer to Dick dastardly who was in Wacky Races fairground attraction and perfect well also in Wacky Races was Peter perfect and then Betty Boop doing the do well. Is from Yogi Bear. Who and you could also have the do as in Scooby Doo drug say I'm doing my best to fill you in on all this Elvis had Hound Dog The last Huckleberry Hound of a car and what he sounded like thank goodness Carl Douglas. Fighting now I said you could use that with Hound Dog So that would take you in the direction of a dog that does kung fu which is of course Hong Kong Phooey which I remember watching as a lad. Cat Stevens topcat running bear Yogi Bear and do you want to know a secret secret squirrel So there we go all Hannah Barbera cartoon characters how clever was that well done Mike. Well done Graham for getting it right so the extra is actually one that if it had been a clue you probably would have got it quite easily but it's coming up in a couple of minutes. With the song rocks there for your listening now then if you don't know what thought bubble with then I shall tell you because it is also Well firstly I'm joined in the studio by the award winning founder of Yorkshire comic festival thought bubble Lisa would lease a.k.a. To a low to such a cool name thank you. To low tech she's a celebrated comic book artist who has worked with the likes of Marvel d.c. And Image Comics and you know this thing out there you probably just goto my good. Review I'm with you on that for sure I'm trying very hard not to shout down his microphone right in front of a basement. So you may have seen already thought bubble returns next month for a huge celebration of comic books and art and all of that good stuff and release is going to tell us exactly what we can expect how you do and I'm doing really well thank you you have a you know an amazing Yeah I'm not too bad I'm not too bad like of coffee today so that's good. Got one right now I don't see that yeah nice I just need to not need to not have some I will be bouncing off the walls like Tasmanian devil anyway so tell us all about please Yeah thank you so we're super excited about the share we've been going for 1st in years now yeah it's crazy it's been it feels like it was 5 but it's actually 1st scene we started in the basement of Leeds town hall and it's just kind of grown and grown since then it's become massive So this is the 1st year that where I move in our actual comic convention to a larger venue Erica convention center so we're keepin the entire festival the week long festival the same we're still running our workshops exhibitions outside con events in Leeds Bradford in various areas but we're just me. When the big big convention event Herrick because we needed a bigger space. We grew new doc in Leeds Well Leeds town hall then new doc and then we moved to Millennium Squire and so we've just we just keep trying to find these bigger spots in Leeds and we need leads to build a convention center so we can come back you know that ladies and gentlemen Ok we need to raise funding now. Because land a big big building just thought bubble can just leave that. Going to have a good as not too far yet since 5 minutes on the trying to see Perrie's in this the bus that goes back and forth I don't know what number bus is but I know it's got a library on the and we are donating comics and graphic novels to that so we're pretty excited about that Ok Yeah Ok on the media even more gas in a way Ok that now you yourself have worked on some incredible comics creating art for Batman and Spider-Man scholar Yes God which And those many other works as well so what would stand what character stands out is your favorite would you say what's on my fair that I've worked on probably poison ivy in choice in the Batman story a bit yeah she was always a favorite villain of mine and I got to work with Scott Snyder who is an amazing writer and we got to kind of in a way recreate that character an All Star Batman so that was amazing to work on but then i also the 1st big run that I ever did was with Warren Ellis. In it was like a reimagining of rubble I felt Supremes. And so that was kind of delving into some characters being done by Alomar in various people and. That was a real labor of love for me as well. I mean then she's misusage you see poison ivy why I mean apart from oh yes. You worked when I was able to kind of like recreate you know in your own kind of way but like you know why why in particular poison ivy that has her being your favorite villain just more interesting that's not somebody that a lot of people say yeah Harley Quinn or joke or something like that but yeah I don't know why she's appeal to me I mean with superheroes a lot of time I mean as a child growing up the finger instantly draws you in a state costume Yeah the way they look and then when you get to know the character or you're reading as an adult you look for more depth They're all what characteristics they have and poison ivy was always a really interesting on terror especially the way we did when we worked with Scott Snyder We were kind of just like she's a microbiologist and she says she's a scientist and I always found that really interesting. And I just think she's fascinating character yeah I think this is like prelude to nerd corner layout but like. I forget which video game it was one of the one the more recent ones where poison ivy that. They Arkham Asylum know is. That's going to really annoy me or come to me but yeah I like that the more the more recent game Arkham Asylum was like one of the 1st kind of new generation kind of games that it. Has made his game a corner you know. Like you know they kind of really like redid her character and made it to be like obviously she's really passionate about plant life and nature and things like that but she still had like a kind of scientists kind of take on everything as opposed to being I am I'm plant lady and I love everything and I'm basically Mother Nature she still had that scientists thing which I think a lot of from the comics I read anyway around that time there were some people that kind of left that out and just kind of can control plants and that's about it like they kind of forgot in some cases that she actually. As a scientist says because it you so that well I'm going to start with the stuff now Ok I think I think I actually said she was a microbiologist as well but she's a botanist still like this still that kind of like she knows what she's talking about chlorophyll and being Yeah Ok We're going to start now Ok so what inspires you as an artist what drives you to improve and keep going yeah I mean I just love drawing and it's always been my help it's something I really enjoy when it's going well it's really relaxing and it's really nice to create something I think everybody feels in one way or another they live creatin. But the thing that really inspires me say scene of the people saw and that that makes me want to improve and draw more so I'm constantly surrounded by artists friends are reading comics saw illustration books and. Various salt farms with different medias and so I that's my life and that's what I love and I get to kind of funnel and do my own thing with it on a day to day basis which is really Riddick Psion for me and then you know how even for bubble as well and having all my friends and peers come to an event in Leeds and Harry get that I know and love to network and make connections to so many people I know in the industry the star of new series and worked on things that spin sult to Hollywood to the and they've met for people and they connect to their system and that really inspires me as well it feels really good it feels really good leads it's become a herb for this kind of stuff the movies being made the stories being told it's super exciting Yeah sure and what would you say actually draws you to comic. Specifically as a form of. I think I mean for me I. Really loved comic. My dad used to take me to Botley market for me to get all my comics when I probably start around the age of 7 and I'm dyslexic so it's cool when we were being taught to read and learn how to read I buy struggled I couldn't do that high 5. I 5 yeah yeah that's all I'm saying I. Like Big Tex Yeah like I mean now I like kind of dances around being able to read comics is just very like yeah there's a picture you can kind of even if the picture starts moving it's all right because there's a little kind of speech but when it's 2 in kind it is easy to read absolutely sure and that and that's how I taught myself to read it self tall and it was free comic books it was true loving comic books my favorite the time was that awful and some of the X.-Men ones and Star Wars weekly Well it was Return Of The Jedi I weakly them with my age range but yeah you get I always got pulled in by they are it was the art that I loved you know like the Marvel adaptations with Bill Sienkiewicz and Archie Goodwin now Williamson this beautiful art that I loved and I wanted to know more I wanted to know what the characters were saying in the speech bubbles and. I just I learnt to read through that and so I think that's why kamikaze specially has a special place for me it was my Scape is the child you delve into these stories for me it was also fronts always from sci fi that I loved and it's just to stick with me and now I'm lucky enough to draw them myself yeah so you've got to pinch myself sometimes I can't believe a. Movie right back with more about the epic. And kind of mutually been a means time. This is a great track from local and if each is Jordan I played yeah he played. On the track step or not I went over to write. The lady wants to come up with the blazing sun and have a Sonic game. To say I'm not a mother. It's a lot of course son involved. In the past like about a job without a brain. Everything and. Honeymoon a block but it would have. Been there to give. Them a visa a. Reason. To never close. The Bible I was reading out of the tar was misleading. Changing with the seasons. Because the son. Of a strong said let me to. The biggest ever present. With . Everything. We've Jordan he played in the leaves on Saturday it was sold out to shots everybody that went. And yet lo Connors Yes or some say stuff and things but yes I'm joined by the award winning founder of Yorkshire comic festival thought bubble Lisa would how you doing really get thank you to full staff now alongside the 1st one is involved in a lot of charity and humanitarian work as well so can you tell us a bit about how you use art to benefit the community Yeah so I'm mean it was almost always my goal. When I started it to pawn some kind of event involving comics that would. Really focus on literacy issues. The young people and adults because that's what helped me so much for comics so that's an issue why I wanted to do but because we were so well well received it was kind of spiraled and we've been able to do so much more so we've kind of learn as we've gone along and we get a lot of audience feedback pre the convention especially And we learned we learned years ago at the convention when things are rarely crazy and intense and some people find that hard to deal with people that have anxiety issues autism any kind of sensory overload issues so we created a safe space called Books lounge which we have in place every year at the show. And when funds allow We have an art therapist in there as well and so leads we work with partners like Leeds autism services bring a lot of their members along and they know that they can go to the space if they are feelin overwhelmed it's just a place to relax and take time away from the crowd that's something where we're prepared proud of and we do various exhibitions and things with Leeds autism services every year. We've worked with asylum seekers and refugee organizations year in year as well and do in outreach work and workshops with their use in using the art of sequential storytelling to get children involved and to tell their own star eason to get creative and that's something we're pretty passionate about just reaching out to communities and connecting with people that may not feel at home in their environment they're in just share all the. You know young people at school that the may need a place to feel welcome we where we feel really strongly about all of this kind of things when I was growing up at school I struggled with a lot of bullying and I was very insular. And so when of you know I delved into comics that was my scape ism but I really feel for a lot of young people that do struggle with finding friends saw. You know feeling on the edge of society that they can come somewhere where they do feel like they belong where everybody is friendly and welcoming and nobody ever judges like the convention that we hold you get people from all walks of life that like different things and everybody always thinks it's comics it's superiors but it but it's not. The comic the comic industry is why the people realize because I mean yeah Ok people a lot of people's initial introduction to comics would have been comic books like Spider-Man or Superman or whatever. There are other. Types of comic books that. You can have ones are more like fantasy based or Saif I based or even ones that just like tell like we we're dystopian stories it doesn't have to be superheroes all the time or it could just be ones about every day is a guy's every day's life or whatever so yeah there is a law scope for more stories to be told as well which is where Absolutely and there's the whole Hollywood connection at the moment with the film industry yes where people feel like the comic book industry or the world of comics is something that very connected to even though they may not have read many comic books they know all these characters already so yeah this disfigurement and that's happened over the last 10 years where conventions of become a hope for young people that might want to. Express themselves by dressing up it's called cosplay and it's a place they feel free to do that and that's always a really lovely thing to say and that kind of slight love for these characters often blossoms into them picking up books and reading about stories told through sequential. You know for sure the show is like a nice growing growing growing growing industry and just not only as like or in some kind of well yeah in a lot of ways businesses and stuff but just in the creative creative aspect to. Now you recently won the Bob Clampett Humanitarian Award at San Diego Comic-Con which is like the biggie how does it feel to be recognized as such a huge event. This is crazy I still can't quite get my head around how that happened I was so nervous at the awards ceremony exits like this big room full of all my peers the people I love like everybody is there and I had to speak in front of them or so I was pretty nervous. I think that the award was given to me in my name but I've never felt that it was an award for me it's an award for everybody that's ever worked tirelessly and helped with bubble and everything we do there so I was exceptional on behalf of all of those people and. So I kind of was able to separate myself a little bit in a way it's it's about this organization that we've put together that means so much to a lot of people that's quite humbling I felt very proud congrats. So this is going vention is taking place in her again as you say on the 9th and 10th of November there is a date for your diaries grow. The comic the comic convention is actually the last weekend in that date so that's the far that's all you said the 9th and 10th Yeah yeah you said yeah. I'm not an auto though that's what is it is cool it's cool so what are some of the things you can expect to find at the level of the never been before yes so I mean we have over 400 tables sellin just amazing publications made by artists and writers a lot of a lot of people create their own stories and put them together in books and they look incredible they crayon prints badges beautiful little craft items so the main stallholders proved produce that kind of stuff and sell that but also we have over a 100 to professional guests there so we have a lot of people coming from America Canada and people that of written scripts and stories for Hollywood blockbusters concept art for Hollywood movies games movies this is a film with comic conventions that you people always think it's just about comic books and now is purely focuses on comic books but comic books are a gateway to so many of the things and so many of the ways to learn and so if you study the art form of sequential storytelling you certainly understand dialogue film dialogue t.v. Dialogue how to dress to say how to create a character costumes tell. Do concept art for games movies it's a gateway to so many of our careers and so this year at the convention with folks in heavily on the educational aspect so we have rights foreigns in art workshops and ways to learn how to get into these fields we have pop for their reviews for anybody that wants to bring work along get it critiqued Yeah and it's always very involved like that it's always about fought battles mainly about phone but there's always a learnin aspect about how you can get into the film industry or get into writing or drawing comics like and scriptwriter in so where can we find out more about this year's event yet it's football festival dot com and the tickets are there and the program everything you need to know we've got a big list of guests which include people like Brian Azzarello who was behind right when and made stories behind latest blockbuster joke a film. And lots of other amazing guest on a case who writes for Marvel Comics one of his main titles is venom at the moment your home fans cares who does in Vegas and he's got a big show on Netflix at the moment also we have a massive exhibition in heritage the message gallery called Hildur inheritor which is based around the hit Netflix. Series The Animated Series by Luke Pearson which is based on his held comics so the search the so much going on over that weekend and all those details are on the website Give it was again was it it's thought bubble festival dot com thought Well 1st of all dot com Nice one Lisa thank you so much for coming on and talking to us about the bubble and it's at Preakness and congrats again on the award. Slow to. This is backstage b.b.c. Radio Leeds I am Nicole and my next guest is sitting right in front of me with a very big red jacket. Yeah I want one basically equalizer is a Leeds based organization which provides d.j. Workshops for women non-binary trans people and everyone under the age and minorities kind of beautiful beautiful umbrella now this Saturday they have a huge event in collaboration with another Leeds based d.i.y. Musical act of slot dropshots Kat I'm joined now by Ron Yeah from equalizer who can tell us more about it hello hello hello. I do and you're right yeah I'm good and hot in my big orange proper jacket I mean if you know your orange you see see my maybe I'm slightly color blind 3 is right. It is quite rare it's like red or orange red orange cost of votes. So tell us a little bit more about equalizer How did you get started so like it was kind of. A product of my procrastination when I was doing my master the station and like because before I did some like research about the music industry and like the gender imbalance in the whole music industry for one of my presentation and the like I was just like so about oh yeah like there's always like so little like like gross or like you know or trans non-binary people when it comes to deejay and the like on the night out as well and then at that point like I learned d.j. From myself sorry Oh Ok. From one of my friends so like I just feel like if I can learn it from my friends maybe I can teach other friends who want to learn d.j. Yeah so like I started equalizer and like a lot of friends who is like also like you know like nonsense Mao d.j. Was really into that idea and then we kind of like gather together started. Like working as a collaborative teacher workshops and parties for. Women number inner and trans people I know so like all the deejays like Woman number and trans people it's not going to mirroring of like representation there between like the people that you teach and invite to come to parties and the people actually play the parties to and teach you know teach the students like to to the producers Well yeah well produces a studio a wish. One day one day exactly what we're looking to yeah yeah Now you recently celebrated your back there's one with a huge body how did that go. It was really fun like as we did it at. Market Yeah all my friends knows i love get market so much because it's such an like lively place you have different people from different backgrounds different age and it's like you know surrounded by all the food yes it's like one of the best part about market and so we did open that and then it was broadcasted as well and. At some point there was just like a little kid probably like 67 year old and. Like him I'm like another girl like came in there just I stood by the door. I mean you were like Yeah coming like do you want to have a go on the decks and that boy I was just like Technically we are like open docs for like now but he was little so you know Ok yeah yeah yeah I know like he was just so I start like scratching the cd Jerry's and shouting Yo yo yo on the mike I know like it was broadcasted and then we told the boy that it was broadcasted and I guess for what he said he was that. Well b.b.c. . I can't believe this happened b.b.c. Radio. Yeah after we showed him it's actually broadcasted he's face dropped and that was definitely like one of the highlight of our open that was brilliant Yeah I know like a lot of friends came down like during their lunch break and then you can just like because I have been bags and I were it's like sit around until I listen to music Yeah and with a lot of people watching. In the market it was right yeah yeah. Now this event. Is On Saturday. Why I. Welcome people expect who's on the line up. Like so we have a whole range of. Yes from 0 to $160.00 more like normal you when you go out and it's like they were playing maybe like techno house electoral Yeah and it's kind of like the tumble Warby like not fix but it's kind of have like a range Yeah kind of you're in this kind of ballpark more or less like. If we take kind of house and techno for example would that be like $12235.00 yeah. I know that's where you sit in for the whole night yeah this is a way bigger range of music that's going to be played. I'm trying so like it will be me and the cat from drop through the opening and I need to find a song that starts from 0 b.p.m. Just to make sure like we actually cover all of the rage and yeah I like your determination if anyone knows a song that is 0 b.p.m. Do you get in touch Ok yeah yours is on the line up and. Another equalizer gala who's the d.j. Name is Mandy and friend and they're also Michelle from slot drop and then they will be doing like they were being charge of $12240.00 b.p.m. Yeah and and then. And Nick now. Doing 1420 yeah yes me and plucky are going to. Do some madness but yes. I'm already been doing math ever since ever since I got asked to like been doing Masters to write. These scenes and in the show and he's like yeah yeah yeah if the phone challenge Yes Yes I'm very bored. And yet as you said the event is in collaboration with slot drop which is another female non-binary l g b t Q plus focused d.i.y. Music collective shout out to Kat So how important is it for similarly minded organizations to work together in the music industry. I thing like 1st of all because I wear or like relatively a small community so it would be nice to work together and then kind of like meet people outside of your own community and then let other people like know about like us and also know about slot drop and it's also it's like. I don't know like you know when you're both in Leeds I are doing like similar things like there's no reason we're not doing something together and it's just great fun to do it like it's it's it has to happen the collaboration because we've been talking about it like things that they were Yeah that was from that so yeah I have he finally after 2 years it's like pulling me out knowing it was probably going to it's not it's not that it's not a one off thing like I'm pretty sure more collaboration and definitely more more other organizations that kind of come up as well like just keep a guy. Now do you people need to d.j. Experience or knowledge or tool to get involved with equalizer or is it open to people of all skills. Is kind of like open to people with all skills because I we do did your workshop so like if you want to learn it you can like always learn it because it's free and then we will have opened for you to practice but I also it's like it's kind of. As a collective It's like you don't need to have like a task or like a role or responsibility to be in just like you know sometimes even like have one idea which could like sparkles a lot yeah so it's like not limited to any specific skills and like we believe everyone have their own special like skills yeah sure all right well how can people find out more information about equalizer about this event on Saturday all of that. We have Facebook which is equalizer leads and then we also have Instagram which is equalizer leads and we have email which is equalizer leads at g. Mail dot com So basically you know. The next line is city I'm so excited I love I want more of these books I want them to never stop I want to keep coming faster Brad Meltzer's here Brad how are you brother. Always getting a voice my brother good to talk to you what do we got now man I listen I feel like reading if I'm wrong I don't know the schedule of how these have been released but I feel like they're maybe moved a little faster on the Harriet Tubman one here. No we're always we do January and then we do like ember October so we're just 2 years out the pace is that that same schedule is always I want to treat the holidays fast for all of us maybe that's what I want want to we can get it can pick it up to want to we had been to really like my editor now we're moving way too slow. Love these series of books that are unbelievable that for kids they're for everyone by them all by every single one of them telling you could not be a better gift for birthdays even baby showers I was young for babies but the kids will grow into on their perfect perfect perfect so go buy mom so it tell us about the very time that one watches our. Yes So as you know you know just very quickly I started this because one of my own kids to have better heroes than reality t.v. Shows stars and people who are famous for being famous that we see on t.v. Every day we started with Ivan Abraham Lincoln and I am a millionaire heart and we've just you know this is the 14th in the series I'm Harriet Tubman and there is something we all know we kind of hear about in 3rd 4th grade and you go oh yes she was the slave who got free but I don't really know that much and I certainly didn't remember that much. But it was an amazing story and we all know the thumbnail again that she was a slave she shoot on the actually escape and she's done she's Perri she never has to look back but she does look back and she says you know there are all these other slaves or enslaved and can't get out I'm going back to them and she goes back 13 different times over the course of a couple years freeze over 70 different and leaves the not just her relatives but complete strangers she starts going back to get Bush doesn't even know and you know I want to strong daughter I want strong son the only way we're going to get him is if we show them strong heroes to look up to and what I love is I was researching Harriet Tubman this is the part I didn't know was when Harriet Tubman was a little girl her father thought about the North Star and he said he find the North Star it always leads in the right direction because North from them was where we were free but that's what the book is really about because it says this is some we can all relate to for our kids you know our kids a hard time relating to slavery of course but and every life we all face hard decisions and at those times we can make the safe choice we can make the right choice so if you put yourself at risk help someone else would you stand up to someone mighty in order to help someone who's weak if you want to answer that question you have to follow your heart Your Own North Star and that's what I tell my daughter that's going to be what always points you in the right direction that's 1000 book that's what I am Harriet Tubman. It's about conscious lies are so good I was going to ask you because every story has every book has a pivotal moment in the person's childhood which is great because the kids can relate to that and I'm going to ask you what her pivotal moment was that it was that was that her Diallo is your actual pivotal moment it's amazing one day she's shopping downtown and she's in slaves and there's another slave who actually runs free and the guy who's running this kind of general store picks up a metal weight like a paperweight and chucks it at this man's head to try and stop it misses the guy but it hits Harriet Tubman young Harriet Tubman in the head and in that moment she says she feels she blacked out she wakes up and she feels like God has a purpose for her like maybe it's because the fear of the death maybe it's just the way that the you know that have a nest of the weight whatever it is but she starts having these really vivid dreams and the dreams she's flying she flies over this whole ground you know green area of grass but there's always this big giant wall that she can't get over and it doesn't take you know someone studying psych 101 and their entry college class to realize what that wall is but you realize she's got to be free she's got to escape scot to get out and I you know it's an amazing moment that you just never hear of that my daughter was obsessed with the idea that she didn't even know her birthday because you know you can celebrate Slater's birthday even though we don't have to birthday cake and my daughter had this whole new view on the world once she got to see this book and again I think as we look around today we all have to look and ask ourselves how we're doing as people you know you we're all like birds right some days we fly high and some days we fall but when you pass the clouds and you reach the top you have a choice you can stay up there and enjoy the view or you can go back down and bring others up to join you and I think today in the world the one thing we're having on both political parties the problem we're having is we've lost a sense of decency we've lost the weight of. Indicate with each other we've lost that sense of generosity of spirit you know Abraham Lincoln the greatest Republican who ever lived for all these people on the office a party of his own in his cabinet because he knew that no one party ever has all the answers but on both sides now we just don't listen to each other we need to kind of come together as opposed to be apart and I love that Harriet Tubman's that you can you know come together and help each other that's what the underground was all about we're going to put a link to the books later radio on Twitter go by and by all the other ones too real quick on that point what do you say to the argument of what you just said doesn't sell those who have been on the thing recently about clicks and views and that's what the media and that's what everything on the Internet and social man is all about the clips of these clips in news and the way to get clicks and views is to appeal to the lowest lizard brain part of you right that sets a little like sex danger what right whatever it sure and I never paid nothing like a outrage a now rage so you are selling something very different than hate an outrage What's your encouragement to people who want this more of that yeah you know here's the thing all the things that I've ever put on Facebook on Twitter on our account and you know the number one thing that ever pass along it was when I put on there is that every person you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about so be kind. It was a number one thing I don't like a 1000000 people. To put on there and I know I know that our animal brain is what gets those clicks amused but we have to do better than our animal brain we have to be better than what angers us we have to and I've got to think again we need to be better than what angers us and you know the great thing when I was growing up by I used to love comic books as you know but I was only a little nerd that love comic books when I was growing up my school one of the only ones so I had to like you know deal with other people people who liked all the things that I didn't like you just had to deal with the best of the world was now here comes the Internet and now you don't have to deal with other people that you can find so quickly I can find millions of people like comics you can whatever you like you can find groups that agree with you and the you know your great strength is always your greatest weakness the great part is none of us are alone anymore there's plenty of people who are like minded but the worst part of that is was surrounded by like minded people and the one thing I know for sure is that whether with the founding fathers or the civil war or anything else or the civil rights legislation from Dr King that we celebrated yesterday that it took both parties to get to that solution it was never one side just ramming it down the other's throat it was never 11 side never has all the answers and never has never never in history does one have the right answer so if you stop for a moment from us all fighting each other and assuming the other side is the worst and we got to say that both sides know no one side is guilty of the more than the other we both it takes 2 to have a good fight but we have to do better than what I guess we have to do better than our loser brain we have to you know what click on for a moment click on someone that follows a view that different than yours Ok I don't talk about the crazy ones who just want to spout lunacy because we know who those people are the people who you trust you know follow people who seem like they're sensible on the other side and you'll see that each side is getting their own news feed. One side is literally told all the people that Neal and the n.f.l. Ratings are going down because of all the people that hate you know taking a need for the flag. And on liberal radio you know that and this is true too both both things could be true you know what they're saying is there is that statistically the same amount of people are actually turning off the n.f.l. Who aren't supporting the taken that they hate the fact that the n.f.l. Is standing against them and they're walking away so both sides are armed thinking they're completely right both sides think that there's something there's a complex issue I just came back from a u.s.o. Tour where I went with Cuba for the u.s.o. When I was there you know I met more military I met people of every color of every ethnicity gay straight white black liberal conservative beauty of our military is they are they are a beautiful crazy amazing mix and it takes all sides to make something wonderful That's the best part of America and if we don't embrace that man we're going to pay a price for it and so we get back to it and I think right now we're paying the price because when we lose the ability to communicate we lose so much more than just good conversation but we lose the best parts of us we ask yourself the question if you don't mind read so I got a son 15 months Jack is our goal for him just 15 months then I thought I remembered he was born into books well we got a baby girl on the way now my gosh I got more books for her to have beautiful so we have. For Jack our goal is we want to be a man to protect the vulnerable and brings joy to other people those are to God Yeah for a great so. I don't have one for the kernel. Of a daughter to give it give me I guess like what's the vision What's the goal for your daughter as she grows up you know here's my mistake I made I'll be the 1st that I made with my daughter and I found the chance to share it is when I started when I was when my daughter was born she was 1st learning to swim and every time she would jump in the pool she would go down and think really low and then she'd pop up and. I'm Ok and I realize I was even asked Are you Ok but it made me realize and I thought so much time asking Are you Ok that's why she was saying it and I realized with my son that was trying to inspire them with my daughter all I was doing is trying to protect our interests it's a fitting think right for animal brains were others protect their daughters but I realize of course we should all protect our daughters but I also realize I need to inspire her too and that's why did I am Lucille Ball it's why did I and Jane Goodall It's why you know I was like I got to give them you know even Rosa Parks I was I got to give them people who are powerful Amelia Earhart I mean the whole series came because it by daughter at that I was like I need her one to look up to that can inspire her to to break new ground and Amelia Earhart was the reason we started this whole series was because my daughter. And I and so as you're as you're being a dad to a daughter yes protect her but don't just say the inspiration for the boys and give inspiration for the girls to really going to do is we're going to we have a. Friend of ours gave us who loves comic books gave us these little books of the Avengers and right then is. The Avengers and guarding the galaxy rises maybe like 15 of them in there in a nice little Sat and you put it at that the greatest marvel on the side when you put a bag I want some love that that there's a Spider-Man one through that's great we love to prick alright nice little quick little lessons whatever but nothing like the wisdom that's on the shelf with all the. I am book from Brad Meltzer So go buy those all and those are life changing stories. Man and what you prove to your kids is you prove that real heroes exist in this world and I don't know that or whether it's farther if you want to fight your leisure brain if you want to fight the problems that you see in the world today I mean I always ask I think Reagan said it best right are you happier now is the world a better place when we're 4 years ago and everyone has a different answer right. For different reasons we all have it but the question that we I know is that this country is starving for heroes we look at t.v. Every day and we want to see less politicians we want to see more leaders we know there's a difference in a leader and a politician and for me both sides we've got to do better at teaching our kids what leadership is and if we don't we're going to have real problems with our kids going to fix heroes whether we like it or not united will have some say in it not sure where should people buy the book brand. You can buy it anywhere the books are sold I'm Harriet Tubman I know is on right now an Amazon so just put in I am Harriet Tubman and you can get it quote I will star goal it's never been about saying hey here's I married been or you know what next book is but it's been about helping people build libraries a real heroes for their kids and their grand kids and their nieces and nephews doing it because of more now from the start one a week Brad one week I'm not happy you know I thought you were doing that by the way though. We are doing we just announced yesterday I put on my web site to go to Brad Not dot com to get what you want I am Neil Armstrong and super cool and what's really fun about that is my artist on the books who has this great art like Calvin and Hobbes meets Charlie Brown he's been waiting to do they didn't want to do Abraham Lincoln he wanted to do Neil Armstrong wanted to you know on show so he just drew the heck out of it and we sent it to a buddy and now we sort of now he may you got married because he knew how we got about it we were shown every every Boldin everywhere because we have a lot of fun with it. And I'm proud of the man let's talk before that one comes up can't wait I'll speak of the next there are but my love and thanks for supporting us from the very 1st day it's always been present talks a friend nothing about our Brad man. Of the world starving for Heroes it's absolutely 100 percent true actually just this morning just this morning washed into a minute You Tube video going to set up here of years ago Jerry Seinfeld at an awards show talking about how stupid it was and his conclusion was why do we look at actors as some sort of like heroes what are celebrities celebrities here like What are we doing what is the he does a bit about that Ok been a bit on the speed all this and I will play the bag and then if it's and I say 160 k. F. And you want to 760 m.d. Dr Jeff Gray thought of just great the other day because he's got the books coming to town you maybe you've heard Garth Brooks is coming to town Garth and. You made a good point. His washer seems a big one you know on you know but that's not like out of it and out of the question of pain yeah but if you have a car that's tough and kind of dead in the water that one's not going to that's not going to work so you gotta take care of your car or truck and if you don't it's expensive it just gets worse one of the things is you know maybe one thing's broke and then you just kind of push through and then 10 things break in the whole thing then they get a free so transition and the whole thing if you need to get all the face of a 4 grand so avoid that get a complete transmission service for only 8995 on most vehicles at rabbits about half off what everyone else gets tell me listen to my side of show in order to get that they very simple business model they've been around the since longer than I've been alive. Is that if there is a place such as one second person going today and San Diego is going to name. My car you know good man what do you think of Brad Meltzer and his thoughts of coming together Dan. I think you had him on about a month ago and I can remember it as I have 4 kids 3 of them all 4 go to Catholic school and such Check this out the last is so powerful Mike I agree with you we need to apart from being a Christian we need people to be leaders of this country but really to stand up to the fastest bullies and what I mean by that is my daughters come home and tell me the kooky stories about gay rights or what they come up with transgender c.n.n. Or tech from a Catholic school transgender kids in what was in Malaysia I want to say one of the Asian countries I thought well what's going on here but what I mean by that is that they're so a part our values with the left are not even kosher with the right anymore so your friend has the book think they're awesome I applaud them and I want to keep fighting the fight and imparting these good values but it's tough because that left not share those values anymore what I mean by that is he tough hard work for sticking with something there and guess what those are now Mike those are white male Christian values the left says they can't even remember the professor is just a part worked out a crime don't do drugs very 'd bastid by the left they don't tear the values anymore so he but he says let's come together and talk to my you know it's like Are you sure because if they don't think what you're thinking that hard work a good thing or not having to are getting married because they don't think that. Yes you can come together on that right if one of one person things hard work is important and another person thinks hard work is racist you can't there's no unity there that's a tough one I don't think a lot of crime is not doing drugs this race is really. Great reference that us the professor got called out by the dean of the u.s.d.a. Last school for saying such and racist things. Funny we got to fight the leaders like that my daughters and I said well we're still wired differently so we're going to do things differently and we don't let those people at your school tell you that we're all the so really all the say no we're not yeah no it's right down President let me let me throw a bit of hope. I believe that there are feed a few people in the front of these progressive values who actually hold them I don't think there are many people who actually there are certainly I'm going to make up a number of the people who believe these progressive values about 10 percent are true believers the rest are just followers and their followers for a myriad of reasons I mean we can talk about tomorrow because I actually got a couple but we're running into. Their followers right and they just go along to get along and they think it's the right thing to do and they don't want to be seen as mean it's but if you're really talking about it they don't really believe this stuff that they're just they just there's a following and I think that great majority of people could be swayed back to conservative traditional principles of life which when we talked about earlier in the 1st hour with. The sexual mores today. You try to think we have a couple examples today Miles gave when he watched the battle of the day for the 1st time and you have 20 girls trying to hook up with this one guy and one girl goes makes out with the guy and then leaves and then another girl goes and makes out with the guy and that's that's the show and that's the number one show on a.b.c. That's like the thing so we live in a society where it's a women go use your beauty to go try and snag the guy and then and go do you know have sex in that your body is everything and then we live in a society where it's me too and women are still folks in care and it's like inappropriate and you can't do anything and nothing is like oh what's happening which is it I would do this all same and 2nd same answer where I you know I profess I'm just here some wisdom on this topic of sex in society here's some some ancient wisdom if I say biblical It turns people off who are say it's ancient Greek wisdom on sexual morals a society and and I'm the problem Meanwhile everyone's having inappropriate relationships people are regretting it people are getting hurt people are getting attacked men can't control themselves women are putting themselves in danger situations some women are manipulating the men it's a disaster and I'm the problem that's my Christian Christianity not the sexual revolution which is fought to separate the physical and emotional aspects of sex that's not that's not their fault that we're reaping we're exactly what we saw in these last few decades it's my fault and I want to offer them a point as our society setting very very mixed signals about almost everything but I really only believe it's a small percentage of people who actually believe these antithetical. Values these these deep progressive values I think it's a few people if we can stand up boldly. Stand up for what is true what is right what is right yes I think a vast majority of people who may be following the progressive way would follow us because this is I believe the truth so be scared. There is a preacher 160 k. a 5 year old come out come out with a sample today I hope that's a little bit helpful it may look like a vast majority of people on board with progressive values but I don't think I think a vast majority are following them but I don't think a vast majority are believers in them. 10716 k. F.n.b. I am 71 well Eric well. I appreciate your you got fired up I like that you were on that what it was really nice 10760 k. F.n.b. And funny let's call Kevin lines up. I do think we have some values on saving money and everyone in all side of the aisle we have different values about taxes and taking other people's money but I think we all as humans have values of saving our own money I don't know many people who go to the bank and just make a donation. But that's it you do and if you're paying in too much under on your mortgage it's making a bank donation that seems foolish so called have a line see how we can lower your payment coming off most of the other day one of our listeners they can buy their 1st mortgage adjustable out of credit into $1.00 payment so they're saving $3.00 to $20.00 a month they've got $19000.00 cash out to do so approved so got a couple things that they don't worry about there just a lot of credit on a credit card debts of 0 that's awesome and they got 1000 grand to fix up their home pretty cool 5 minutes all to get this ball rolling so get it rolling 1803335157103335157 call Kevin now you'll be off the phone with him with a number before we get back from this break 103335157 anchor funding dot net equal housing lender California Bureau of real estate broker number 012760878 molester 36419 not a lot of. The truth is that the comedian should be the only one getting awards were the only ones that have to actually think of something original and funny and interesting to say you know how hard that is you know how hard it was just to write what I'm saying to you right now. It was hard. This took a long time. But we can do it. You. Just you know sick of all these actors and you know I don't why I was so fascinated with actors in this culture they have got a flaw in their stupid bedhead brain. Why. We must honor this man why he pretended to be Bob Johnson. Tried to tell you this is what he's doing. Playing dress up and pretend it's not genius ladies and gentlemen. Is to. Roll the cameras put on these clothes then they're ready to say we told him to say. He did give this man a huge golden trophy he's that. Goes along with. Walking. Down the red carpet in these ridiculous outfits like the senators from Krypton it just so I. Thought I could going to talk a half an hour ago with Brad Meltzer about his I am series books for kids teaching that there are real heroes not what our society says our heroes should be actors seem to be someone that we put up on too high of a pedestal Separ Eric he's a voice actor. Voice tone face spirit Michael told. Us through. Us Here in Oklahoma Yeah absolutely. So dish to you sure how. Is it I does he walks around the studio odd day run miles an office all day all day Tony I'm not. Around here lookin like cruises I'm just there doing as one of the Rings thing or whatever is going to. Go to Richard Kahn in San Diego what's up Richard. But you know it's generous and I grew up before men and women were the sleeping together like crazy in the 1st or 2nd Ok and I ended up being exactly like my kids are now marriages worked out and yet the greatest thing I would want to keep says she is a lifetime partner they can talk forever but I don't have that. Not only that but I was I sold a bill of goods by doing that myself I also am selling my kids about it because I can't change that right now for them I can only tell them what I think or what I feel what they're doing what everybody else and what we're doing there and let me tell you the headline yesterday that really struck me. There was a headline that said that China wants a totally non private society and everything can be monitored what that means is that we're giving up our individuality and our love our love of God and our love of others if we go the way of trying to some people if they are going to be the next world leader what we're doing is we're replacing it with ourselves our money our sacks our impulsivity and all those friends we're not control with. It just makes me really cry for this country cry for my family and cry for my kids and their kids because I don't know what the future's going to be like in terms of personal relationships of people caring about those anymore because of the quote sexual revolution was set up to say that literally repeat that last sentence I don't think we're going to have the kind of personal relationships to have a society that values individuality anymore we're going to go all the way of. The herd that the Democrats are leading us down the middle and that's what I think's happening and I don't think Tom's kind of shop and I hope he can much one man yet a much much bigger net it's not a political thing and I think it's now it's not a direct assault thing and politics reflects I know it's a lot to think about rich and really good thinking about percent yeah really good therapy able to go back immediately into our narrative the weight of a segment over find that I can skim for it I love that I can find out last sentence and said it was really good but ask I also want to ask you to play a clip to which I 67 off about I'm going to get to all of this to me let accept. Their voice or. I can get Phil on on the horn for a few years ago as I. Said we were going to play this earlier and then you didn't work out doesn't matter whatever and then it feels like Richard got to brought it back up again today. Limo super prude made an appearance in the 1st half hour the show might as well make a real parents I heard this years ago rejected it for whatever reason came up the other day in conversation so it's top of mind this is Phil Robertson from Duck Dynasty at Sea-Tac a while back talking about how 110000000 Americans have s t D's Now this is not really about s.t.d. As it's about relationships is what Richard was talking about and that's the real tie in here but as to these are good example of how far we've fallen Phil Robertson calls it revenge of the hippies I got my facts from the c.d.c. They. Saw the grandson Ah I love love love. I let go he says it's not I got my facts it's a fact as great as new. Do we go start over I got my facts from the c.d.c. Day before yesterday 110 maybe. 110000000 Americans now have a sexually transmitted illness 100 and. Me. I'm looking at it. I don't want you America to get sick I don't want you to become. I don't want you to come down with a debilitating disease I don't want you to die or are Nick you're different disease free she's disease free you marry you keep your sex right there. You won't get sick from us thanks really transmitted is he. Was. There is a penalty to me pay. You want a godly more Co medically safe option one man one woman there. Was any if you hate me because I told you that I told you my love for us not contingent on how you feel about me I love you anyway I don't want you to see that I really are getting sick I'm trying to help you for crying out loud America if I didn't care about your why did I bring this up. I wouldn't care. 2 minutes 55. So I found that clip I heard them forever ago but then I found out this morning from a progressive website in the person responded to it and said technically Phil's right about this part of s.t. Is right Ted please write anything I said but if you follow the his advice you've also led a terribly boring life so he said so there that's a side of you rather have random sex in your life is exciting. Meanwhile $110000000.00 people have s.t.d. Is it does me set now the yes it is not about the s. These although yes but it's also that's just a physical representation of the broken relationships that the sexual revolution rocked. And you see it with the me too movement men who can't control themselves women who put themselves in bad situations and also can't control themselves I just have men and women who put themselves in bad situations and men and women who can't control themselves that's pretty much it and to go back to the indulging. Urges which is what Richards that is they're going to go as opposed to having self control this is the me to move it this is Aziz Ansari who we talked about earlier regrettable decisions etc etc It all stems from us 10760 care family 10765362 perfect timing how your marriage. KEXO 1230 AM [1230 KEXO]-20170530-160000

For the rest of his life and so does. The transition. So is the. U.s. . To where no. Attention. About the car show was going just fine before you got here Donnelly about card I hate your guts I love you great Cody year end of a no. Alex Smith got plus some but don't got no license Our thanks to the great Cody of the Miami Herald for being in with us reminding us all that it's Tuesday doing everything he can to destroy the show texture writes in please talk about how the Incredible Hulk and Flash Gordon almost fought at a convention and an adult fan broke them up and told them to act their age while dressed as a soup. Or here I don't know if that story's true I wish for it to be true can you guys get me more information on that story please I appreciate the textures providing content for the show I'm on it we've got plenty to talk about today thank you so you got Tiger Woods DUI that he says no no no I was just you know how up on pills. We've got Frank De Ford passing away legendary elegant sportswriter we've got Bryce Harper in an uproariously funny brawl in baseball that was amazing it's really the only way to get or center talking about baseball in a way that consumes is make it a fight which like Greg Cody said during the local hour it makes me wonder how much baseball actually wants to eradicate this stuff when. The pictures don't. Cody is right when he says if you want to end that in baseball baseball really wants to end it right do it the way basketball did when Steven Jackson and runner test went into the stands started punching the customers the penalties were so stiff that fighting just ended in basketball never happens anymore right well do you think baseball wants to end it because when else do we discuss baseball during the regular season and becomes the car dash in question though of do you actually want this is published that you know I think if you're baseball it's great publicity as long as nobody is hurt you know if somebody is hurt then it becomes a scandal but if you're the commissioner of baseball privately hey let's let it go because it's the only time we get on Sports Center it's the only time our dull sport seems really exciting. You know a $500.00 foot home run or something it's not the only time that it gets on Sports Center it is the only time that it knocks everything out of the way and consumes the news cycle but here's another way to get you to watch baseball many of you watched a baseball game yesterday because Adnan Burke made us a promise now if you're not familiar with that man Burke if you don't know what he looks like this is what he looks like he looks like the undercover CIA agent who saves James Bond by killing a crime bosses henchmen then smiles wide extends his hand and says the double 07 Welcome to Tangier Mr Bond now many of the listeners have formed a whole bunch. Of welcome to Tangier characters they're writing their own movie script are you ready for this we got a bunch of them Ok. Skip Bayless looks like the guy who after being undercover for 2 months gets so excited when he finally sees his mark that he breaks cover and makes his move a moment too soon and gets taken out from the blind side then has he lies in the sand dying he hears a faint voice from far away say welcome to Tangier Mr Pot. Thomas looks like the Secret Service computer tech person whose office is in the abandoned tunnel in Turkey that smoothly rolls his chair back to his double screen computer desk with a hot pocket in one hand a big gulp in the other and his lucky headband on as he grabbed his headset and says sarcastically about time Bon Let me guess you need a car. At a church and looks like a tourist on his 1st exotic vacation while eating at a café witnesses a lethal confrontation he sits in a state of shock holding his fork in the air mouth agape blood spent less blood splattered across his wine shirt while he hears the assailant greet another man with welcome to Tangier after by. Ben McAdoo looks like the guy who tries to squeeze by you holding a large tub of popcorn during the climactic scene of an action movie and when his body has completely eclipse the screen all you hear is welcome to Tangier Mr Bach fantastic and Scott Van Pelt looks like the guy ad man and bond have to meet at the rendezvous. As he hands bonded dossier he says no double 07 it's worse than we could have imagined So with all of that. As a precursor we give you admin Burke calling an errant judge home run yesterday in the game between the Yankees and Baltimore and we don't know if Tim Kurkjian is laughing at Aaron judges power and the sound that his bat makes or he's laughing because he knows what Adnan Virk is about to do. That had to be so confusing to people I mean so delightful Yaz the people who like our show and so confusing to the many more who don't know anything about our show. That's. Why do you think they put it on the pole Guillermo kerching is laughing is he laughing because he knows welcome to kid years coming are they laughing at the absurdity of airing judges' power yesterday if felt like and now was calling the game just for us because David Ross was in there so they played Tim Kurkjian dancing at that wedding over and over again he called him Tom more than once like he was just trying to make us laugh yesterday that could be both could have be like on the front end like right when he sees and hears the you know the pov of the judges bad he's laughing at the raw power and then he's laughing because he knows what's coming next I think it's because he's laughing at the power of judge that the sound the ball makes the sound the bat makes and how far the ball goes in the right center field I think he's laughing at Tangier because you know he's never heard the welcome to Tangier homerun call where he has seen the tape measure shopping our call correction so we can just ask you real quick because I want to get an answer to our question but play that call again that's Monday baseball are our fans fans of our show pretty much hate whenever we talk baseball unless we talk about it like this. She was. Delightful. Flash Gordon and the whole fit indeed getting a 5. Lou Ferrigno and Flash Gordon star Sam Jones wait a minute you're talking about these are you guys yeah. Right well bellies print out immediately and get that to me that I don't really talk about the real ones I know we're talking about 2 guys what would you fight with them for you know you in your mind I have no idea it was a comic fest over the weekend and a fan and a guy who was there attending Darrin Clements had to jump. All right I need video of this immediately I need press releases I need. Articles video whatever you guys have for me and I think it Derek Clements on the show well for you know go get for it not for me Allison plays immediately I want the guy I got in between for I need to talk to for ignore what mediately. Hell why are they fighting why would anyone fight Lou Ferrigno. Who freaking was probably 80 years old so why. Have you seen him lately I have not all right Guillermo put on the pole could you beat up Lou Ferrigno right now oh I see you know I love Cody Cody is the best I don't know how it was but I've been hearing the name for 40 years he's 65 and it was alright I might be able to then me as old Ok can you put it on the pole Garo do you think that you could beat up Lou Ferrigno What's the matter with you I don't care whether 65 or Google him or look for it no it's never going to be frail 1st of all the idea of you beating up anybody is laugh out loud Nowadays you go for it no . Any idea when I look it up. Going to look at a Lou Ferrigno today see that's an old photo. Looks like the guy who runs u.f.c. . You know why her send him away send her away. So we were doing tickles and the way yes I'd rather be sent away than pickles just not everybody in here to climb. Say that everyone in here to go in already because I know God is reading this course everybody. Presented. Greco to give him a straight talk is brought you by straight talk wireless that's phones that's networks no contract if you're not familiar with Greg Cody of the Miami Herald he is our dear friend we love him very often he's terrible at radio we have a series of devices meant to point out that he's terrible at radio to make it less terrible we fail when we do this but the sound my father shouting show Killer is one of the things that we do to him. Her lot of people think that chalky a lawyer or juggler it show Killer or other thing that we do when he makes a bad joke this is always a funny sound it's a sound that I love it's one of my favorite sounds in the universe. Game shows sound sometimes and we were headed this way we will send him away from the show with that we've got a hockey penalty box outside this is how he gets sent away. Great buddy come in offended box and the other thing that we do and it's the worst of all the punishments for him he hates to be take hold so that's how that last segment ended if you're new to the show and don't understand why so you got to was reading and why Greg Cody was being tickled he hates to be tickled that is the worst of the punishment. And he well Tim Kurkjian going to join us here in about 15 minutes to tell us whether he was laughing at welcome to Tangier or the sound that Aaron judges that makes. You god has some updates on this Lou Ferrigno Flash Gordon brawl and the mug shot of Tiger Woods is amazing it's just amazing it is it is the picture you would put on a screen if you're trying to symbolize fall from grace if you just want to if you want to someone if you're playing a game in fact that would be a fun board game right. To show someone pictures and try and get them to get to the phrase fall from grace you just hold up the Tiger Woods Tiger Woods not in a shot and so Lou to his p.r. People because if you're going to get away from a DUI the way to do it is well just had back surgery and I you know I mix the pain medications and look that that struck me as plausible it struck me as believable even as cynical as we can all be because there was a dude in my building the other day who ended up on an elevator naked and didn't know how he got there and it's because the medications got him. Sorry about that I was drinking somebody say it sorry about that I was Ok thank you anyway still got update us on the look for it no Flash Gordon Brown You know I want to send him away again because I don't want to go on I'm certain of that was his fault Are you Ok it's all because I thought Cody would be the funnier per show Ok I think it's Mike's fault he didn't make clear who was on your head season one of you say something and not understand the microphone's in silence he joked to make I'm going to be the one making it right time out but I saw Mike speaking to someone and he was definitely not speaking to me he knows if he said it to me I would have said it on air so he out of here get him out of here. Great buddy come in opinion about Greg you can speak to both of us of once just so you know and it's useless to speak to him You can't give him jokes you can't. Get out of here. Where was the joke there we needed there was I write my own jokes or I just stare at the microphone silently and let the show flounder and not on the Hulk. Hogan and Flash Gordon fighting in some sort of I'm sorry Lou Ferrigno incredible home. I mean you're rattled Cody pretty off there I'm willing to. Pay the fine but that is Cody and. He's just so bad. Anyway according to the son Darin who was the witness who is the guy who broke up the fight between Flash Gordon and the hall or yeah the whole he says Flash Gordon was telling the hawk to go home I think my way is even funnier a fight between Flash Gordon and Hulk Hogan. I think my mistake is even somehow visually funnier but go ahead so he was he was telling the whole to go home Flash Gordon was. Why was he doing that I have no idea probably you know maybe old washed up go home go like you maybe I just yes yes why else would he say that and Lou was getting upset and said quote you're winding me up it was a lot of finger jabbing going on it was getting pretty nasty and you're winding me up yeah you should've said you're not going to like me when I mean I don't know what you're winding me up it's a pretty great thing for you know I mean. What is the over under on the age of a person who expresses rage by saying you're winding me up is the over under you're winding me up is about. 65 yeah yeah if you're what you are why do you mean Why I mean that's how the whole tear age you won't like me when the man during his prime gets older and in the nursing home when the. What point do we reach Get off my lawn . And the nursing home when you're 65 the incredible what does he say you're winding me up and eventually on his deathbed it'll be get off my lawn because you can't get off my lawn so there was finger jabbing going on and Darrin started to get nervous and he went to security and this is my favorite part of the story so far he wanted to speak to security and he told security hey they're having an argument out there and Flash Gordon which security responded Would you step in between Flash Gordon and the Incredible Hulk that's great. I wanted nothing to do with Allison is going to get somebody. I was in the middle of this so that we can talk to somebody about what happened during this brawl. Tim Kurkjian going to join us in about 10 minutes Greg Cody is going to get back in here but this Tiger Woods mug shot for those of you who don't know he was charged with DUI The Palm Beach Post is reporting that he was asleep he was found asleep at the wheel. And his people and he have put out a statement in which he says look alcohol was not involved in this. It was pain medication off of back surgery and just says a lot as us as a society you know that Ok Oh Bill not as bad as alcohol when it could be so much what I heard but what it what it does do one gives off irresponsibility and recklessness and box and the other feels more like a genuine mistake so I understand why they're going to that one yes of course opiates and opiate addiction just as dangerous or more dangerous than drinking at the wheel but one suggest irresponsible out of control partying the other suggests a form of science that we can all understand could be a mistake Oh yeah no it's a good public relations move it's just infuriating that that's the public relations move so the police report is out and I have kind of summarized from the folks up in Bristol he was asleep in the car disoriented changed his story about where he was going blew a 0.00 on his breath test no water of alcohol told the cops he took several prescription Well there you go then it's not looking that you got to believe in that point 0 You blow you play with 0.00 you don't have any I'll call in your system. There you go that's a piece of information the police report that's relevant because it has to end your skepticism about whether he's telling the truth or not wasn't he pulled over about 3 30 in the morning yes you know I wonder though you know is it is it any better to be. You know impaired on medication then to be impaired by alcohol it's the same result I driving and we were just talking about this while you were in the penalty box deservedly I might add you know. One gives off recklessness debauchery the other doesn't the other gives off an honest mistake fair fair did you take this test in the police report like back at the station because all the reports I was reading an initially was that he refused to take a breathalyzer I read the same reports I mean apparently he took I don't know why he took it but obviously took it at some point Ok well we need to be careful with how we report some of the details on this because e.s.p.n. Is very meticulous about its reporting and you can't just say something is a fact without e.s.p.n. Having verified it right there are the reports were that an officer smelled alcohol on his breath and that he refused to take a breathalyzer initially Now this is new information Chris here on e.s.p.n. Dot com and you see something about a 0.0. Ok because there are points there are changes this discussion for me I think . It's just that that mug shot is so damning. But if you blew a 0.0. Isn't that enough evidence for you to say look this was an honest mistake with pain medication even as it could have been more dangerous even if you're slumped at the wheel asleep you're clearly not yourself yeah I wonder what cocktail what mix was bad for him though because typically it's medication with alcohol you know is it 2 medications that he was both described anyone supposed to take him to get a lot of questions it doesn't change it for me because he's under the influence he could be absolutely reckless with his medications and you can have a nice Polish public relations statement that says oh I just doesn't change it for you and all the good for you it's a better than was engineered seeing but he was under the influence like he was obvious so yeah I understand but once but he wasn't rich one of them is being intentionally irresponsible like well they both can be well I think that's the best thing I don't know but pain changes it for me pain changes and for me because when you think it's do you wind the place you go wheeze Come on man get a car how well I hear you why are you driving what are you doing all and then all of a sudden oh wait he's disoriented he's not himself he's altered by the medications he's new to in an elevator I hope somebody is just tuning in right now. And doesn't have any reference point for wait a minute Tiger once I heard Tiger Woods was nude in an elevator. Money in the bank money in the bank money in the bank. A 61 year old man dressed as a clown and carrying a bloody machete was arrested in California Larry Allen Kobe from Gilroy a town about 40 miles northeast of Monterey California was arrested after horrified drivers on Highway 101 reported seeing him in his costume Police race to the scene where they found the 61 year old wearing a pale blue clam suit with green purple and yellow spots while he was holding a large Mish machete in the air above his head he also had on a haunting clam mess and the knife was covered in fake blood while holding out his thumb asking for a ride from passing cars. I have an alibi. Officers drew their guns on the fake but ultimately they figured out the incident was all part of the 61 year old sense of humor Monterey County sheriff's office released a statement that read it could be fun to dress up as a clown right however if you do please don't stand the sight of Highway 101 holding a machete Covais was not charged because there was no victim. For all the latest on that information to The Sports Center on e.s.p.n. Radio all throughout the day Mike go on called curch and we'll have him on here in a 2nd the Tiger Woods police report as you guys are hammering him according to e.s.p.n. That he was asleep in the car disoriented he changes story about where he was going he blew a 0.00 on the breath test no odor of alcohol he told the cops he takes several prescriptions many of you are writing in that he also has some insomnia issues that he takes pills for and you guys are just hammering him Tiger went out and got messed up on painkillers rather than alcohol you're right it's different it's worse . Another texter writes and even if it's oh oh what are you doing out at 3 am while on pain medication he should know the side effects of the medication that's all well and fine I'm just telling you that for me it changes the story that it wasn't just a reckless and it could have been somebody could have ended up dead he could have gotten into a car accident that would have come with a lot of consequences but I'm telling you that for me it changes the story out at 3 am driving home drunk vs out at 3 am after back surgery and you mix medications wrong to me the to me there is a difference that isn't just the moral legal difference to me it's a difference in irresponsibility it's a mistake of not judgment to me To me it's just a mistake right but what if there is a problem if we find out that there is a problem with the pain medication that he's taking getting He has some sort of addiction to this some of the pain stuff that he's taking and I still took it and still got behind the wheel got it shouldn't do that and he said he shouldn't do that but what I'm telling you is that when people are in pain and they're trying to do something to soothe that pain I get it whether it's in football or elsewhere if you're taking medicines and you develop an addiction to medicines I'm not going to judge you too harshly because when you wake up in the morning it hurts I wonder about the circumstances you know we never want to picture super star athletes by themselves you know I picture him where he's going somewhere he's getting in his car at 3 am leaving some place he doesn't have people with him going Tiger Man you're groggy let me drive you home I mean it is there's a lot of unanswered stuff. Let's bring in Tim correction here this was the homerun call by Adnan Virk and then Burke as you know looks like the undercover CIA agent who saved James Bond by killing a crime boss his henchmen then smiles wide extends his hand and says to double 07 Welcome to Tangier Mr Bond this is Adnan Burke and I'm correction during the broadcast yesterday. Can you're right I was laughing well before he said welcome stand year I had no idea that was going to be the homerun call I 67 to 82 hit a line drive into the center field seems to have left the ballpark at about one second it was ridiculously hard to hit came on the day that Ken Singleton former big leaguer told me you could never see anyone if the ball harder than Aaron Judd so I was laughing had just how absurdly hard hit that ball at what my hilarious friend the play by play guy called there does Skip Bayless look like a retired figure skating champion. A script was initially rejected by every major studio in Hollywood because now because of the studio to finance the $20000000.00 budget just with a 40 percent ownership Plus almost half of all that's after the film reached a certain gross Michael Eisner. Because he felt that the script was one of the best that he'd ever read initially suggested casting Harrison because he had a job because he wants to be. In all my movies. Was for the role it was because of his commitment to the series Magnum p.i. Was cast just 3 weeks before. And I'm really disappointed in some of the listeners this isn't surprising but zeal the joy that some people get out of public mistakes and out of. Precipitous falls from Glory always disturbs me and let's just make this a conversation about not Tiger Woods but about pain. Because man some of you are really enjoying beating up Tiger Woods on this and he took responsibility for his actions if you're just joining us. Was found by police 3 am asleep at the wheel. Charged with driving under the influence but the breathalyzer is 0.00 It appears that pain medication might be the culprit and he could have done something disastrous and I'm not the guy who lets the government make the law for me on I'm I'm always befuddled why gambling is legal Mon place and not another prostitution legal one place the age of sexual consent is different across depending on you know if you've got one foot in one state or one foot in another it's different in each so I don't allow the government to decide these things for me and I'm not siding with well alcohol and DUI is something that's viewed as worse by the public. Then pain medication but what if I were to tell you right now that Steve Kerr got pulled over blew a 0.00 and his explanation was Man I just screwed up with my pain medication I just feel there's a lack of empathy in what it's like to live in chronic pain Tiger Woods has been having back surgery after back surgery right it's a plausible reason that he gave but we want to doubt everything we want to call everything an excuse and snicker you know the 1st report is DUI everybody assumes that's the truth so when it comes out that he blew a 0.0 and is blaming medication it just to a lot of people it just seems like a lie that seems like the cover up instead of the truth and we're just not willing to give benefit of doubt. It is strange because within the story that l.s.d. In the 4 medications that Tiger had in the car the 3 that he was taking one that he's not taking And to answer your question on Steve I feel I could be a totally the way people are coming out because I'm reading the same stuff on Twitter the same text machine you're reading and people just hammering and hammering Tiger Woods I do not I don't like that would be the goal and you got there it is irresponsible and he could have killed somebody absolutely and this is about a week removed from his own quote saying I'm in no pain this is best that I felt in years. I'm in no pain because I'm taking so much popping so many I mean him saying that it's the best cities felt in years is a big thing I'm not I'm not one to judge someone's pain I cannot feel that the pain out there and I'm just using his quotes here I feel bad for him in general and this is just part of it I can't recall another athlete who's had such a long gradual yet steep fall from where he was the worry is now and this is just the latest image hit for him and I feel bad for the guy I just do I'm curious though what's happening here with our audience where they are spinning poisons at him and I get it man opiates but to me don't you make a distinction maybe you don't between pain pills and cocaine pain pills or marijuana pain pills and Molly pain pills and alcohol don't you make a distinction there I think some people don't obviously doesn't feel like many of you are I think most do and spur some people the Gulf is wider than others like for me it's not that large of a goal I guess if you like drinking alcohol like he knows I'm taking 8 shots I'm out here to get banged up and sometimes people can get mixed up with their prescriptions and not necessarily know what they're doing to this is so complicated for me because when people are in physical pain I understand given what football players do for a living I understand you getting any kind of addicted to anything that remedies your. Pain legal or illegal I get it if cocaine marijuana help you somehow relieve that chronic pain of waking up on Monday or Tuesday morning and feeling like you're every week in a car accident I sort of get how it is that that one happens but many of your raining down judgment many more facts we obviously need more facts to find out what it is the Tappan here but if he is indeed dealing with insomnia which must be on the whole only as something to live with if he's indeed dealing with insomnia and then on top of that there's back pain and whatever other kind of pain and whatever kind of post-surgery medication one needs if that's the cocktail that he inadvertently consumed so much of without knowing do you give him any kind of benefit of the doubt or pass despite your cynicism I do but in defense of the thing did anybody down to the level of marriage on e.s.p.n.
