The Chendur Express, which started its journey from Tiruchendur around 9 pm on December 17, had to be halted at Srivaikuntam station at 10 pm because a portion of the railway tracks was washed away in the floods.
Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena confirmed the deaths since it began raining Sunday. He said around 1,343 personnel from central and state government agencies were involved in the rescue and relief operation work.
