PHNOM PENH: Authorities are hunting for the people behind the discovery of more than one tonne of illegal drugs that were discovered in an abandoned vehicle in Preah Vihear province.

Protected area communities report forest crimes via app
On average, communities trained by the REDD+ project submit 50 formal reports about forest crimes per month to authorities based upon data captured through the SMART 7 application, according to the USAID Greening Prey Lang (GPL) Project.

Two gaurs have been spotted in the Prey Lang area in Preah Vihear province, grazing amongst the cattle of local villagers. Officials have called for the protection of these two specimens. The gaur, Bos gaurus, also known as the Indian bison, is the world’s largest surviving wild bovid.

Environment ministry scoffs at report by 'political activists'
A senior environment official rejected a report by the Prey Lang Community Network (PLCN) in Preah Vihear province claiming that it had found 73 forest offences in four days of investigating and monitoring the area in Chey Sen district. Ministry of Environment spokesman Neth Pheaktra deemed the PLCN’s actions unlawful and dismissed the report as false.
