Fire damages duplex on North Point Road in Rockford
ROCKFORD — A vehicle was charred and the garage of a duplex severely damaged by fire Friday afternoon on the city's east side. The fire was reported shortly after 3 pm at a duplex in the 6600 block of North Point Road. “Firefighters were able to enter one of the structures and get the occupant out of the building safely,” District Chief Bill Hyde said. “The other structure had already been evacuated by the time the fire department arrived.” Hyde said the fire appears to have started in the garage at one of the units.
