Attorney To Request Bond Reduction for Bethel Street Murder Suspect

The defense attorney for the 2019 Bethel Street murder suspect told a Christian Circuit Court judge Wednesday that he will be requesting a bond reduction as his client awaits trial.
Shakkory Willis was arrested two years ago in connection to the fatal shooting of 20-year old Corvyan Thomas on Short Bethel Street on January 24, 2019. Willis jailed four days later when he turned himself in to police and was charged with murder, first-degree robbery, and second-degree unlawful transaction with a minor.
During a pretrial conference Wednesday morning, Willis and his defense attorney, Eric Bearden, appeared virtually before Chief Circuit Judge John Atkins. Bearden told the judge he will be requesting a bond reduction, at which time Judge Atkins said the motion will need to be filed by May 7th. The Commonwealth’s Attorney then has seven days to file a response to the bond reduction motion. ....

Attempted Murder Suspect Doesn't Appear For Sentencing

A Hopkinsville man who was scheduled to be sentenced in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday morning on three felony charges, including two counts of attempted murder, didn’t show up in court again.
Brian Ellis was scheduled to appear before Chief Circuit Judge John Atkins. Judge Atkins stated that Ellis had apparently cut off his ankle monitor and a bench warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Ellis is charged with two counts of attempted murder, six counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, and multiple drug charges in connection to an incident on Dawson Springs Road in September 2020. Christian County sheriff’s deputies reported Ellis shot a home twice and then shot a car on Hart Road. Deputies said they determined Ellis was involved in both shootings, and he was arrested shortly thereafter on Wallace Avenue. ....

Hearing To Dismiss Former Police Officer's Perjury Case Continued

Alexander was indicted in March 2019 for first-degree perjury for allegedly providing false testimony to a Christian County grand jury in 2012 in the case of former city councilwoman Ann Cherry. She was charged with official misconduct, tampering with a witness, and tampering with a public record. As part of a plea agreement, Cherry resigned from her council seat.
In 2017, the City of Hopkinsville settled a federal lawsuit filed by Cherry and agreed to pay her $150,000 but did not admit any wrongdoing as part of the settlement. ....

Pembroke Triple Murder Suspect Seeks Medical Furlough

click to download audioMartin was arrested in May 2019 after he was indicted by a Christian County grand jury on three counts of complicity to murder, arson, attempted arson, and other offenses. The charges are in connection to the shooting deaths of Calvin and Pam Phillips and Ed Dansereau in Pembroke in November 2015.
Martin is being held in the Christian County Jail under a $3 million bond.
