LOS ANGELES (AP) — The last of hundreds of abandoned, orphaned or abused animals that were taken in by Southern California's once-prominent Wildlife Waystation have been relocated, authorities said Wednesday.
The chimps were the last animals remaining at the Wildlife Waystation in Angeles National Forest, a sanctuary that closed abruptly in 2019.
More than three years after the facility closed, state officials announced Wednesday they have completed the relocation of all animals that were housed at the 160-acre Wildlife Waystation sanctuary in the Angeles National Forest near Sylmar.
More than two dozen former lab chimps in New Mexico are one step closer to living out their remaining days in sanctuary.
