Uganda: Student financing body asked to prioritise loan recovery
Christopher Birungi, the Director of Finance, and Administration of the Board says that the Directorate of Research, Strategy, and Planning, ICT, Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation Departments are still vacant, undermining their strategic pillar on innovation.
He told Members of Parliament on Wednesday that so far 20 students who cannot afford accommodation and meals have dropped out of the loans scheme. “Our loan covers tuition, functional fees and research without accommodation and welfare costs. We have made an appeal for consideration in case of vulnerable people coming from Karamoja and the northern region,” Christopher Birungi, the Board’s Acting Executive Director told Parliament’s committee on Education and Sports.
