Nikita Marie Dedam, 36, was originally set to stand trial last year on a charge of second-degree murder but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

The sentencing of an Esgenoôpetitj woman who admitted to fatally stabbing Christopher Dedam was delayed until January after her lawyer disagreed with an expanded statement of facts introduced at the sentencing hearing on Tuesday. 

A 35-year-old woman charged with second-degree murder has pleaded guilty in Miramichi court to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

(Photo: TDCB) A 34-year-old woman has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Christopher Dedam on the Esgenoôpetitj First Nation. Nikita Dedam was charged in Miramichi Provincial Court on Thursday. She remains in custody and is scheduled to return to court on April 13. Last August, RCMP were called to a home on Micmac Road for a man who was found unresponsive. Police found a deceased 34-year-old man when they arrived.
