© Christopher Frederick Jones Three layers of walls were removed to give northern aspects deep into the plan, reactivating the existing formal sitting room. The key public rooms of kitchen and dining were reconfigured along the length of the northern edge, offering aspect to the pool and new garden perimeter. Where layers of skin were removed, the bones of the existing rooms remain with its characteristic Queenslander ornament above door height - the room’s proportions retained. Plan Our response was to set the house into the land to connect the building and occupants to the site. To use rich materials, like the exposed red brick flooring mirroring the ploughed patterns from the farm and the rich red soil. Spotted gum timber flooring, benches and timber trusses from the spotted gum bushland surrounding the property. We embodied memory from the old shed and farmhouse, through the exposed trusses, the raised exposed concrete pool (reminiscent of the water reservoir) and the breezy dining space (reminiscent of the shed used for Easter family lunch) © Christopher Freder...
