ISLAMABAD: Learning from the incidence of violence by right-wing activists during Aurat March last year, the authorities were able to manage strict discipline on International Women’s Day on
Monday through the use of administrative powers, sources in the Ministry of Interior said.
“Strict guidelines were issued to the capital administration to restrict troublemakers and participants of the women day rallies not only within limits but away from each other, “ a senior official of the ministry added.
Two separate marches were held in the federal capital, one by the largely left-wing alliance led by Women Democratic Front (WDF) and Awami Workers Party (AWP) from the National Press Club to D-Chowk. ....

Islamabad: Women from mainstream political parties, religious political parties, activists, students and civil society representatives organised a number of rallies, seminars, marches, report launch events and award ceremonies to commemorate International Women Day on Monday.
The day started with celebrations of the achievements of Pakistani women at the presidency and a rally of women leaders under the network of Women Alliance Pakistan in Rawalpindi and ended with gathering of Women March participants at D Chowk and a rally by Jammat-e-Islami in front of National Press Club. Participants of the rallies were holding placards inscribed with slogans of women rights and chanted slogans for women emancipation. ....

ISLAMABAD: From January to December 2020, 2,297 cases of violence against women (VAW) were reported in 25 districts of Pakistan despite a challenge of under reporting due to COVID 19. Month to month analysis of the data shows that at the peak of the pandemic in July, cases of VAW were at highest. Following this, the number of cases dropped again but rose in September due to the resurgence of COVID.
The statistics make part of the report titled ‘Violence against women and girls in the time of COVID 19 Pandemic’ launched by Aurat Foundation in collaboration with SAP-PK under the project ‘Jazba- Democracy and Empowered Women or Jumhoriat Aur Baaikhtiar Aurat.’ The event was attended by a large number of women rights activists, Parliamentarians, academicians and media persons. ....
