A former Granite District teacher has been charged with allegedly striking a “significantly disabled” student in the head.
Cindy Bell, 57, of Sandy, was charged in 3rd District Court with abuse or neglect of a disabled child, a third-degree felony.
According to the charges, a witness — a behavioral aide at Silver Hills Elementary in West Valley City — told police that on Feb. 16, she “could tell that Bell was upset and annoyed” with her students because it was “the end of the day” and “the kids were having a difficult time paying attention.”

Frustrated Utah teacher charged with hitting disabled student

WEST VALLEY CITY — A special education teacher at an elementary school in the Granite School District faces a criminal charge accusing her of hitting a student after becoming frustrated.
Cindy Bell, 57, of Sandy, was charged Monday in 3rd District Court with abuse of a disabled child, a third-degree felony.
Bell was teaching a special needs class at Silver Hills Elementary, 5770 W. 5100 South, on Feb. 16. It was the end of the school day and the children were having a difficult time paying attention, according to charging documents, and the teacher's aide could tell that Bell was "upset and annoyed."
Bell was reading a story to the children and asked another aide to continue reading. As Bell walked through the students, who were sitting on the floor, she tripped and fell over a 7-year-old boy. She got up and walked to her desk and was "visibly frustrated," the charges state.

SALT LAKE CITY — A former special education teacher at an elementary school in West Valley City has been charged with abuse of a disabled child in connection with a February 16 incident in her classroom.
According to a probable cause statement, 57-year-old Cindy Bell was a teacher at Silver Hills Elementary.
A witness told police she entered Bell's classroom that day and she could tell Bell was "upset and annoyed."
The witness attempted to help Bell by keeping the students on task, but the students had trouble focusing because the school day was almost over, the statement says.

Builders step up efforts to collect diapers for babies – BizWest

DENVER — HomeAid Colorado, the Colorado chapter of HomeAid America, will collect diapers for babies now through May 15. The diaper drive is part of the annual “Builders for Babies Diaper Drive.”
It costs a family about $1,000 per year to buy a supply of average-priced diapers for one child, according to information provided by HomeAid. For someone who works a full-time minimum-wage job, making just over $15,000 a year, $1,000 is a huge expense.
“The past four years we’ve averaged collecting over a million diapers each year. In 2021, our goal is to up the ante and secure 1.5 million diapers,” Cindy Bell, executive director of HomeAid Colorado, said in a press release. “While this is a lofty goal, it’s important for our community to rally together and provide the next generation of Coloradans with basic living necessities.”

Onslow Jacksonville crime stoppers awards banquet chairmen leaving

He says he has only used the term twice throughout his entire life.
When describing the culmination of the moment during his final days as chairman of the Onslow/Jacksonville Crime Stoppers Program, Joe Yannessa comedically explained to a crowd of local law enforcement this is now the third time he has said something was "bittersweet".
Twenty-one years after he joined the exploratory committee with Naval Criminal Investigative Service that would eventually become Crime Stoppers, Yannessa doesn't know a better way to say how he felt standing in front of the people he has worked closely with during that time. Vice-Chairman Bob Bright has given the program 19 years and beginning in 2021, the two will step down after building one of the most successful programs in the state.
