Film chamber decides not to open halls till govt. approves relief package
The Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday decided not to reopen cinemas till the government accepted its request for a relief package for the Malayalam film industry in view of the pandemic crisis.
The chamber convened a joint meeting of producers, exhibitors, and distributors after the government permitted reopening of cinemas with 50% occupancy from Tuesday. The exhibitors had said on Tuesday that they were ready to resume screening from next week after completing the preparatory works.

The cinema halls in India were the first to shut shop when the number of COVID-19 cases in the country saw a rise in March, 2020. By mid-March, every theatre in the country had to stop functioning. While unlock India started in June, the theatres were allowed to re-open only in mid-October. Some of the states are yet to permit the re-opening of cinema halls. However, despite the reopening of cinema halls, it has not managed to get sufficient footfall.
During the pandemic, many single screen theatres had to shut down permanently because of the losses incurred. Now, several exhibitor associates from across the country, wrote a letter to superstar Salman Khan to release his upcoming film
