To what extent has this crisis been 20, 30 years in the making? i think it goes back into the 70s and the 80s, actually in terms of the whole deregulation bandwagon. we were having meetings with government in 2009, 2010 with our concerns about the quality issues on on building sites. so it s been there for a very long time. rewind to 1984. this is a bbc documentary called the great british housing disaster. structural engineers warned of the possible fire risk from cladding even back then. i think it s absolutely essential that anything that is being placed on or around existing blocks should be considered very carefully in relation to a serious fire. do you think that there are now systems being used which represent a fire risk? frankly, yes. ....
