The bill proposes introduction of EVM in Panchayat Elections. The cabinet has approved amendment of certain provisions of Assam Panchayat Act, 1994. These will include indirect Election for post of President of Gaon Panchayat - new GP President will be elected from the 1O GP members. Introduction of Political Symbol in elections of Zilla Parishad and Anchalik Panchayat - no party symbols for candidates contesting GP elections.

Assam government proposes major reform in Panchayati Raj System

The State Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, exempt any of the following projects from the application of the provisions of Chapters ll and IlII: The projects listed in Section 10A are those vital to the national security or defence of India. Projects listed in Section 10A will be exempt from the requirement to obtain the prior consent of the landowners.
