They say that stepping on a crack in the sidewalk can bring bad luck but soon pedestrians in downtown Kilgore will see their luck improve as new, smooth sidewalks are constructed. At a recent city council meeting, Director of Public Works Clay Evers told council members bids for Phase 4 of the Downtown Sidewalk Improvements Project had come in and the contract was awarded to Tyler-based Hartbeat Construction.

The Kilgore Main Street Improvements project has persisted through rain, storms, a pandemic and more — and now the final concrete pour of the project is marked with tire tracks.
