Israel Siku, interpreter for the Lyoya family, explained how Peter Lyoya broke down when he saw the video showing his son’s death. As a father himself, Siku said, he was unable to sleep that night. He went on to describe Patrick’s killing as “an execution.”

The NAACP Grand Rapids branch is calling for transparency from law enforcement following Monday’s deadly officer-involved shooting in Grand Rapids.

In the body camera video, you can see the Zeeland officer patting down Toriyon Mitchell, taking things out of his pocket, and accusing him of being on drugs.

The proposed changes would mean that the city and community would play a larger role in what kinds of technology the Grand Rapids department buys.
