Draft guidelines consider false success claims, exaggerated student achievements, and creating undue urgency as "misleading".
The guidelines, drafted by the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) titled Prevention of Misleading Advertisement in Coaching Sector, released by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, sought public opinion within 30 days.
The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has invited public comments until March 16 on draft guidelines aiming to prevent misleading advertisements in the coaching sector. The guidelines define conditions for coaching institutes, such as disclosing course information, refraining from false success claims, and acknowledging individual student efforts.
The Draft Guidelines are placed on the website of the Department of Consumer Affairs.
CCPA has issued notices to 31 coaching institutes for misleading advertisements and imposed fines on nine of them.
