Thirteen hectares of Jhau garden in Cox s Bazar was uprooted in tidal surge caused by the recent Cyclone Yaas.
Under the influence of Cyclone Yaas, four to five feet high tidal waves hit the Marine drive area. As a result, about three hundred large Jhau trees were uprooted in Kobita Chattar, Diabetic Hospital Point, and Shaibal Point areas, reports our correspondent.
Locals of Cox s Bazar said Jhau trees cover most of the beach area of Cox s Bazar. They protect the locals from natural disasters, balance the environment, and also serve as a tourist attraction.
