BOSTON – Gov. Charlie Baker now has a climate change bill on his desk that represents the state's first major legislative effort in a dozen years to address one of the most pressing issues of our time. On Monday night, both the Senate and the House passed a bill known as the Next-Generation Roadmap for Massachusetts Climate Policy by wide margins, with only two senators objecting and just nine of 154 representatives voting against the bill, which updates the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2008. “Yesterday, the Legislature met the moment and passed generational legislation that gets ...

Officers who volunteered will wear body cameras during their shifts. After one year, the department will review the pilot program and decide whether to make body cameras permanent for all officers.  Mashp...

But the Cape Cod region will mostly see 1-5 inches of snow, with the exception of Bourne on the Upper Cape, which could see upwards of 8 inches, according to National Weather Service forecasts this morning. The snow is expected to start falling tonight, becoming moderate to heavy at times overnight into early Thursday, when it will change over to rain and snow. Winds could gust as high as 44 mph, the wea...

Right whale calving season kicks off with two babies seen off Georgia, Florida coast

Researchers spotted the first live right whale calf of the season off the coast of Cumberland Island Friday while surveying for them by plane. Then on Sunday researchers saw the second right whale baby just off the beach in north Florida. The whale moms are nicknamed Chiminea and Millipede, the latter for the series of boat propeller scars down her back, said Georgia Department of Natural Resources Senior Biologist Clay George.  “They're both well known animals,” he said. “In fact, you remember we did a satellite tagging project of a few years ago? Chiminea was one of the females that...
