China ferrous prices drop as steel hub Tangshan cautions mills on irregularities

BEIJING, May 14 (Reuters) - Chinese ferrous futures extended losses on Friday, with steel prices plunging after top producer Tangshan city warned mills to maintain market order, while iron ore is set to give up a weekly gain.
The local government said it would look into illegal behaviours and suspend business at mills found manipulating market prices, spreading rumours or storing up goods to make a good bargain, as the growth in steel prices has outpaced the rise in costs. (bit.ly/33FXWV0)
The most-traded steel rebar on the Shanghai Futures Exchange , for October delivery, fell 6.0% to 5,640 yuan ($875.03) a tonne as of 0330 GMT. ....

BEIJING, April 28 (Reuters) - Benchmark iron ore futures in China fell on Wednesday after hitting historical highs in the previous session on expectations of price controls and steel output curbs.
The China Iron and Steel Association said on Tuesday that fast-rising iron ore prices are “unreasonable”, the industry should enhance exploitation of resources both at home and abroad, and also improve rules for the futures market.
Meanwhile, the country’s environment ministry pledged it would dispatch specific panels to the ferrous sector and strengthen supervision and support, an official said in a briefing on Wednesday, without mentioning which mills or what places they would visit. ....

BEIJING, April 28 (Reuters) - Benchmark iron ore futures in China fell on Wednesday after closing at a record high in the previous session on expectations of price controls and steel output curbs.
The China Iron and Steel Association said on Tuesday that fast-rising iron ore prices are “unreasonable”, the industry should enhance exploitation of resources both at home and abroad, and also improve rules for the futures market.

Dalian coking coal futures jump as safety inspections raise supply concerns

BEIJING, April 16 (Reuters) - Chinese coking coal futures surged more than 5% on Friday and were on course for a 6.7% weekly gain, on supply concerns as some major coal producing regions have ramped up safety inspections.
Authorities in provinces and region including Shanxi, Henan and Inner Mongolia have recently stepped up inspection at coal mines following several accidents in the past few months and ordered those with risks to halt production for rectification.
Meanwhile, data from China’s National Statistics Bureau showed that overall coal production in March dipped 0.2% from the same month a year earlier to 340.76 million tonnes. ....
