Wolf stops 37, Silvertips beat Winterhawks 3-2: Dustin Wolf stopped 37 of 39 shots, and Gage Goncalves’s shorthanded goal 39 seconds into the 3rd period gave the Everett Silvertips a lead they never relinquished, as they beat the Portland Winterhawks 3-2 at Memorial Coliseum Tuesday night. It’s Everett’s ninth straight win over Portland going back to last season, and their fifth this season.
Why Everett won: An unspectacular but steady game from Wolf, the WHL’s best goalie. He has now stopped 169 of 179 shots in five games against Portland this season, all wins.

Wolf early, Regnier late, Silvertips beat Winterhawks 6-2: A 37-save effort by Dustin Wolf and a hat trick by Ethan Regnier led the Everett Silvertips to a 6-2 win over the Portland Winterhawks Sunday night at Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett, Washington. It’s the eighth straight win for Everett over the Winterhawks, in a stretch when the two teams have usually run 1-2 in the Western Hockey League’s US Division.
Wolf saves Everett in the 1st: The key stretch for Portland was the 1st period, where they outshot the Silvertips 18-7 but were held off the scoreboard by Wolf, and the game was scoreless after 1 period. He was especially effective against Portland’s forward duo of Seth Jarvis and Jaydon Dureau, who played one of their best periods of the season but were shut out. Wolf held the fort long enough for his teammates to get into the game the last two periods.

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. – Corson Hopwo scored two power-play goals, and the Medicine Hat Tigers came from behind to beat the Red Deer Rebels 4-2 on Friday in Western Hockey League play.
Brett Kemp and Eric Van Impe also scored to help Medicine Hat improve to 6-0-1 in its last seven games.
Garin Bjorklund made 23 saves for the Tigers (10-3-1).
Ben King had a pair of goals to put his team up 2-0, but the Rebels (2-13-2) gave up four unanswered for their 10th loss in a row and third straight since Brent Sutter stepped down as head coach.

When hockey players make a major junior or an elite U18 hockey team and have to move away from home to play, they need a place to stay.
That’s where billet families come into play. A billet family will take in the player and treat him or her just like they were their own child. They give them a place to stay, sleep, eat, but also a place to grow and develop as a player and a person. And many times in the process, that ‘second family’ slowly becomes just another part of the family.
“It forms lifelong relationships with everybody involved,” said Dean Friedt, billet coordinator for the Prince Albert Raiders, and a longtime billet father himself. “Once they become part of your family, it’s hard to see them go when they move on after their stay in Prince Albert.”
