The Library holds the nation's largest resource of materials relating to Australia and the Australian people.  The collections range from the earliest European works about the Great Southern Land to the most current publications.  The Library collects a wide range of research materials and holds more than nine million items ranging from books and journals to paintings, photographs, personal and organisational records, maps, music, oral history and folklore recordings, ephemera and electronic resources.

If you own a valuable or significant cultural work such as a painting, or a manuscript or a collection of photographs, and would like to donate them, we’d love to hear from you. Artworks, manuscripts, and collections of photographs all help to tell the history of Australia

The National Library of Australia may be unable to take your donation, because we already have the item in our collection or because it doesn’t fit with our Collection Development Policy. 

I’m thinking about donating to the National Library of Australia. What do I need to do?  How are donation offers assessed by the Library?  What materials are you interested in acquiring?  I’ve made an offer. What do I do now?  What if I don’t own copyright over the collection offer? Can I make an offer on behalf of someone else?   Can I donate digital material? Does the Library accept donations on the spot? What happens if my donation is accepted?
