Kikheto seeks renewed effort to eliminate TB in Nagaland

KOHIMA: The commissioner and secretary of Health department, Y Kikheto Sema has on Friday called upon all the stakeholders to renew efforts to eradicate tuberculosis (TB) from the society. He was addressing the World TB Day event held at the directorate of Health and Family Welfare (DoHFW) in Kohima held on the theme “Yes we can end TB” as special guest. He highlighted the history of Dr. Robert Koch, who on March 24, 1882, found the cure for tuberculosis. Sema has called upon the participants and society at large to renew their commitment and rededicate themselves in the fight against TB and also unite to work towards the elimination of TB, which is an infectious disease and leading cause of death worldwide. The officer pointed out that TB remains as one of the world’s deadliest infectious killers. He has reminded on the global efforts to combat TB, which has saved an estimated 66 million lives since 2000. Highlighting that World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared TB as an emergency about three decades back, he viewed that Nagaland has also come a long way in the elimination of TB with the support of centre’s funding and guidance. Our CorrespondentKohima, Aug. 11 (EMN): The State Tuberculosis Forum (STF) has advocated organising sensitisation programmes to eliminate tuberculosis from India by 2025 as envisaged by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. The issue was taken up for discussion during a meeting held in the conference hall of the commissioner and secretary of Health and Family Welfare’s office in Kohima on Thursday. The meeting was presided over by the secretary of Health and Family Welfare, Asangla Imti, which was attended by officials from the Health department and other partners. The objective of TB Forum was presented by Dr. Collins Z Sono, WHO medical consultant, wherein he highlighted that the Prime Minister of India launched the TB-free India campaign during ‘Delhi End TB Summit’ on March13, 2018. While the campaign called for a social movement focused on patient-centric and holistic care driven by integrated actions for TB-free India, he stated that the union health minister launched the “TB Harega Desh Jeetega” campaign on September 25, 2019, to reinforce the efforts to “End TB by 2025. Kiphire tops in TB intervention programme

Dimapur, June 17 (EMN): Kiphire topped among other districts in the tuberculosis (TB) intervention programme by securing 90 marks during the first quarter from January to March 2022. The marks were given based on nine indicators such as success rate, UDST, notification rate, HIV known status etc. This was disclosed by the WHO medical consultant, Dr. Collins Z Sono, during the first quarterly review meeting of the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) held at the IDSP conference hall of the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, Kohima, on June 16. Presenting the state performance, Dr. Collins stated that the Kiphire district was followed by the Mokokchung district with 84 marks and the Mon district with 80 marks. He informed that the Tuensang district was found to be the worst-performing district. Dr. Collins stated that the Kiphire district has screened more than 3000 presumptive TB followed by the Longleng district screening more than 2000 during the first quarter. He, therefore, encouraged the district to increase the screening for presumptive TB.
