The General Department of Taxation (GDT) announced that it collected 84.67 billion riel, or $20.91 million, in value-added tax (VAT) from e-commerce in the first quarter of the year, which is seen as a reflection of the boom in online transactions witnessed since the advent of the Covid-19 crisis.
The General Department of Taxation (GDT) reports that it has collected 214.68 billion riel ($53.01 million) in taxes from e-commerce to date since May 2022 – with an above-average 36.62 billion riel or $9.04 million last month alone – in a feat seen as an indication of the rising trends of online shopping and trading in Cambodia, especially in light of the Covid-19 crisis.
At least 135 companies have registered with CambodiaTrade, a government-hosted online marketplace, have displayed more than 1,200 products on sale globally since the application’s soft-launch last September.
