As the Centre has been laying emphasis on the development of eastern states, Paradip Port in Odisha will be developed into a world-class modern port which will have the capability to handle capesize vessels at a cost of Rs 3,004.63 crore.

The Indian Government is set to invest Rs30.4bn ($386m) for the development of Paradip Port, in the state of Odisha, into a modern port.

Union Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday said that the Paradip Port is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of the development of eastern states, adding that the project is a milestone toward the Port becoming a 'mega port'.
