Fact Check: COVID and cleaning

COVID-19 spreads less commonly through contact with contaminated surfaces. Respiratory droplets can also land on surfaces and objects. It is possible that a person could get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or eyes. Spread from touching surfaces is not thought to be a common way that COVID-19 spreads.
News10NBC also reached out to the Monroe County Department of Health.
Chief Community Engagement Officer Julie Philipp said, The CDC has determined that the risk of surface transmission of COVID-19 is low, so routine cleaning is adequate. The primary mode of transmission is airborne and aerosol. As we work to stop the spread of the virus and return to normal, getting vaccinated is far more beneficial than extensively disinfecting surface areas.
