The scheme is part of the year-long commemoration marking the 1500th anniversary of the birth of Colmcille. The successful applicants will bring Colmcille's legacy to life through a range of themes including history, music, drama, literature, art, archaeology, spirituality, storytelling and folklore. Among the nine Donegal projects that were successful are several that will take place in the Gartan area where Colmcille was born. Community-run projects, small businesses and charities are invited to submit applications. The Haworth & Worth Valley Rotary Club Charitable Trust Community Grant Scheme was launched last month. It aims to provide a financial boost to bodies in the Worth Valley which are struggling to maintain their offering during the Covid-19 pandemic. Nicholas Oughtibridge, chairman of the fund’s trustees, said: “We have had some really interesting applications so far. “If any other body is considering making an application they should be aware that the deadline is Sunday, March 28.” It is the first time the Worth Valley club has run a community grant scheme and the venture is one of the club’s key initiatives during the 2020-21 Rotary year.
