Chaotic. but i have no idea what the front end looked like. hmm. so once the rescue people got there, what happened? i think it was just a bit of chaos as well. it looked like hundreds of emergency crews that had to cut through the fence. there must have been like ten minutes of impact by the time that one had arrived. there were cut cables hanging around. it was mayhem. it was calm mayhem. everyone was calm. everyone on the back of the compartment were pretty much okay. everyone seemed like they walked ....

Forward and really kind of plow its way through things. you wouldn t get those abrupt stops you would expect in smaller vehicles. but in this case you can see clearly this had an abrupt stop. clearly there were bodies flying through the air, debris flying through the air. this was something that was not looked at in any of those three studies, whether or not a person not attached would cause injury to another person on board the vehicle, which is i think what we ve seen here. there s head and neck injuries from other people running into other people, not actually from the person moving themselves but from someone running into them. you actually become a projectile. there s bodies above and below in these types of accidents. and also the luggage. luggage isn t secure when you hop on an amtrak train. you put it under your seat or in the compartment ahead of you. things to think about. david soucie thank you very very much. we re going to stay on this. we re watching and waiting for tha ....

A movie, you don t know. bodies flying through the compartments. sara sidner has got the latest on that. sara when you think about what happens when you get on an amtrak from washington new york. you probably take off your shoes, take out your laptop put your bags in the compartment above. there s a lot of stuff flying around through that train. reporter: right. you re not wearing a seat belt. sometimes, people are able to lie down across the seats comfortably, you know, an evening trip. you know we heard from some of the folks inside some of the passengers inside just how they were feeling during all of this and what they felt as they were coming around the curve. and i want to give you a look. we ve made it on to the tracks. and we re standing right next to the tracks where this train was traveling. you can see the train is still there. you can see the last car there leaning way over to its right. you can also see the curve there. we heard from some of the passengers that they felt ....

Here and new york city. so a lot of people don t have a lot of heavy luggage that they re putting overhead. there s also come partments in the front of the car where you can put your larger luggage. there s not a lot of luggage typically in that overhead come partment compartment. you have a lot of people walking around standing around in the car, just freely moving throughout those cars and it is a condensed space. the kind of injuries that we re seeing, dr. cushing said were not particularly surprising. one of the fatalities that we do know about, james marshall gaines iii, who was 49 we re not sure if he was 49 or 48. typical of the really serious injuries we saw and he was one of the people who did die overnight. he had a very serious chest wound. he came in with a catastrophic injury to the chest area. so again, dr. cushing saying these are not necessarily surprising given the nature of ....
