Newly Passed Bill Makes Teaching Arabic Compulsory in Islamabad's Schools


The Senate has unanimously passed a bill to make teaching Arabic mandatory in primary and secondary educational institutions of the federal capital.
The ‘Compulsory Teaching of Arabic Language Bill 2020’ was introduced by the PML-N Senator, Javed Abbasi, in August 2020, according to which the Arabic language will be taught from Classes I to V and Arabic grammar from Classes VI to XII.

The bill will become an act of the Parliament after its passage from the National Assembly and will be implemented within the next six months.
Abbasi said that Pakistani children must be taught the Arabic language as a subject, adding that if Pakistanis master this language by means of its incorporation into the schools’ curricula, they will not face any problems in the world. ....

Pakistan’s Upper House of Parliament on Monday approved the Compulsory Teaching of the Arabic Language Bill 2020, making it a mandatory subject for grades 1-12 in the federal capital.
Presented by Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) Senator Javed Abbasi, the bill was passed near-unanimously, with Pakistan Peoples Party Senator Raza Rabbani offering the sole dissenting note.
The bill requires the ministry concerned to implement it within six months, adding that Arabic would be taught to grades 1 to 5 in Islamabad, while Arabic grammar would be included in the curriculum of grades 6 to 12. ....

ISLAMABAD: Senate on Monday ratified Compulsory Teaching of Arabic Language Bill, 2020, to make the Arabic language mandatory in educational institutions primary and secondary in the capital.
Moved by the PML-N s Javed Abbasi, the bill suggests that Arabic should be taught from grade 1-5, while students of classes 6-11 should also learn the language s grammar.
The minister will ensure the implementation of the bill within six months, the bill s text said.
Abbasi, speaking on the floor of the Senate, said that the Holy Quran and daily prayers were recited in Arabic, adding that the language was the fifth-largest language in the world, the official language of 25 countries . ....

The Senate on Monday approved the Compulsory Teaching of the Arabic Language Bill 2020 which makes teaching of the Arabic language mandatory in primary and secondary schools in Islamabad.
The bill was presented by PML-N Senator Javed Abbasi and approved near-unanimously by members of the Senate, with PPP Senator Raza Rabbani offering the sole dissenting note. The ministry concerned will implement the bill within a period of six months.
The bill states that Arabic will be taught in schools in Islamabad from grades 1 to 5, while Arabic grammar will be taught to grades 6 to 12. ....
