Republican Rep. Ron Wright of Texas has died, his congressional office announced in a statement Monday, saying that he had been admitted to the hospital after contracting COVID-19.
The Republican lawmaker was 67 and had cancer, for which he'd been receiving treatment over the past few years, his office said in a statement.
Ron Wright has become the first sitting member of US Congress to die from the coronavirus after catching it two weeks ago.
Ron Wright passed away after he was diagnosed with the coronavirus and was hospitalized from complications with cancer treatments.
